An update from T.R. and Angie Knight
Serving with SIL International - Language Technology

Cardinal in our tree in the winter.

January 2024 - The new year has begun with a flurry of work. Many consider January in Indiana gray, cold, and dreary, but we find it an exciting new start as we kick off all the work processes, new projects, new budgets, and look to the year ahead. Thus, January is a busy month administratively in Language Technology as multiple yearly processes all converge. T.R. and his teams are engaged with 2023 Annual Reviews, October to December 2023 Quarterly Reports, and the beginning of 2023 Calendar Year Budgets. Add to that, T.R. is also ramping up his work as the chair of the planning committee for the biennial Language Technology Conference (LTCon 2024) which is coming up March 11 to 15 at the International Linguistics Center in Dallas, TX. Lots of energy and activity in Language Technology.

T.R. and the Language Technology Leadership Team are so thankful and feel blessed to work with such amazing people, to be blessed with the funding for our ministries, and to have the opportunity to work on incredible projects for the Kingdom. When we come together at LTCon in March, we will be celebrating together what has happend these past two years and looking to the future of our work. More to come in a future newsletter about the conference.

We pray that you are having a good start to the new year. Keep seeking the Lord in the New Year with New Opportunities.

God at Work

“God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply.” - Hudson Taylor

Here are some things He has done recently:

  • According to a recent report by Wycliffe illustrated in this amazing infographic, 1.5 billion people do not have the full Bible in their first language, 1545 languages still need a Bible translation started. SIL Language Technology partners with ETEN and many Bible Translations organizations on developing software that helps with these All Access Goals languages. Progress.Bible provides analytics to help us track our progress.

I hope this small glimpse encourages you to see what God is doing through all of us serving at SIL International.

Prayer and Praise

  • Praise that we had an extended holiday break with some wonderful family gatherings.

  • Praise that we have had a great response to our recruiting visits to universities with many students communicating with us about potential internships, membership, and positions.

  • Please pray as Angie continues to struggle with health issues in addition to her Multiple Sclerosis. We ended the year with the jaw pain still ongoing and an infection in her right leg which is slowly healing.

  • Please pray for Angie’s mother, Betty, whose cancer has returned a third time and is currently ongoing treatment. The family is praying together and supporting each other.

  • Please continue to pray for an unspoken prayer request that has our hearts troubled.

  • Praise that we have been blessed to find a woman in our church, who Angie trusts well, that has come alongside us as a house cleaner. She has already helped T.R. with the upkeep of our home, offered to assist with Angie’s care and other projects around the house, and spends time with Angie as she is working. In just a month’s time, we have found such joy having her work with us and minister to us.

  • Please let us know how we can be praying for you!

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

In Him,
T.R. and Angie Knight

A little glimpse into the Knight holidays

We haven't gotten a lot of snow this winter, but the little we have has been very pretty.

We haven’t received a lot of snow in Upland this year, but what has fallen has been very pretty.

How can you support the work we are doing with SIL International?

Glad you asked! T.R. is currently in a fully funded position in his role as Director of Bible Translation Software. The finances come from a funding organization devoted to innovation in Bible Translation. Because T.R.’s position is fully funded, we are not currently requesting you to partner with us financially. What we could use the most are your prayers and encouragement. If you would like to financially support the work that SIL does, you can give online or via check. If you give online, you can designate Language Technology or any of our specific projects that interest you. If you give via check, you can include in the note field a designation of Bible Translation Software - KBTD16. Thank you for your prayers and support.
