LFUCG Council Update: Source of Income Ordinance

On Tuesday, the Social Services and Public Safety Committee voted 7-3 to pass a Source of Income Discrimination ordinance. The ordinance now moves to the full council on January 30, 2023. The intent of this ordinance is to prohibit housing discrimination against people who use housing voucher programs. The proposed ordinance *does not and has not* required landlords to accept/take vouchers.

Our office has prepared an info page to help navigate this important issue. Visit https://lexkydistrict2.my.canva.site/soi to check it out. Included on this page is a link to view the full text of the proposed ordinance, along with links to the testimony from me and Lexington's 10th District Councilmember Dave Sevigny, who took up this legislation in 2023. If you have issues with any of the links or need other assistance, please contact my office and I or my Aide will be happy to help you! You can also consider coming out to

As we have been working on this issue for quite a while, Councilmember Sevigny and I are well aware of recent Kentucky Senate and House bills that have passed and/or are pending vote in Frankfort. We are yet hopeful that our hard work to help our Lexington neighbors with housing vouchers will not be completely undone!
