Transportation Management Plan

Road Closure on Jamieson Avenue

Jamieson Ave
Pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be restricted until March 2024

Impacts associated with weather conditions and underground obstructions have delayed the reopening of Jamieson Avenue to March 4.

To prevent combined sewage from polluting and harming local waterways, RiverRenew crews must upgrade the Hooffs Run Interceptor at our construction sites north of Jamieson Avenue and within African American Heritage Park.

RiverRenew crews must fully close Jamieson Avenue to through pedestrian and vehicular traffic while they work to connect these two areas. Updates on these activities will be provided via social media and through program updates on RiverRenew.com.

Here’s what to expect through the remainder of the full closure of Jamieson Avenue:

  • Crews working extended hours Monday through Friday and on Saturdays*
  • Detour signs re-routing vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic
  • Fencing and barriers across Jamieson Ave
  • Uninterrupted access to businesses along Jamieson Ave

*Extended work hours are coordinated and permitted by the City of Alexandria

Rive Renew Pendleton Street Construction

Pendleton Street
Pendleton Street site construction footprint expanding at the intersection of Pendleton and N Union Streets

RiverRenew crews are getting ready to connect into Outfall 001 to support a healthier Potomac River!

Since 2019, the expansion of the Pendleton Steet site construction footprint has been planned and coordinated with the community and City of Alexandria.  Until now construction activities have been east of Union Street allowing RiverRenew crews to maintain access to the public right-of-way and Oronoco Bay Park.  As we approach the final phases of construction, our construction footprint will be slightly expanded into Oronoco Bay Park and Pendleton/Union Streets.

Here's what to expect at the Pendleton Street site from January 17, 2024 through the end of the year:

  • Pedestrian Impacts: Temporary relocation of the pedestrian crosswalk at Pendleton and N Union Streets
  • Cyclist and Vehicle Impacts: Minor reduction in the shared travel lane width for east and west bound traffic
  • Parking Impacts: Restricted public parking near the intersection of Pendleton and N Union Streets
  • Boardwalk Closure: Closure of the boardwalk and walkway at the end of Pendleton Street within Oronoco Bay Park
  • Sheeting Installation: Some noise and vibration associated with the installation of sheeting along the shoreline

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at

Union St. A reception following the ribbon cutting will be held in the Overlook Room (#325) on the third floor of the Torpedo Factory, 105 N. Union St.

Don't Wait to Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet

Medication Collection

Last year, Alexandrians safely disposed of more than 2,600 pounds of unwanted and potentially dangerous medications. Rather than wait for a Drug Take Back day, many used permanent drop boxes located at Police Headquarters, Inova Alexandria Hospital and The Neighborhood Pharmacy. ASO partners with The Neighborhood Pharmacy and picked up 100 pounds there last month alone. Learn more about how you can safely dispose of unneeded prescription medications.
