Just a few of days ago I sent out an email announcing Trevor Gore's Modal Tuning Master class. See the information below. The response was overwhelming and both classes filled within 48 hours. Therefore, Trevor has decided to offer a third class. It will be October 19-21 and the spots are filling fast. The spots are available on a first come first served basis. Let me know if interested in attending this unique opportunity to learn from the guy who literally wrote the book on resonant frequencies for the guitar.
Please read the information below carefully and respond to reserve your spot.
Thanks, everyone! Trevor and I are looking forward to meeting those who can make it.

So why is modal tuning important?
• Guitars radiate sound from their vibrating parts, mainly the top plate
• If a guitar top vibrates in a different way, it produces a different sound
• The different ways a guitar top vibrates are called modes
• If the modes are tuned to resonate at particular frequencies with particular amplitudes, we can shape the way a guitar sounds
• In the workshop we explore the theory and practice of mode tuning to help you achieve the sound you want from your guitars

What we will cover in the class:
• How strings drive your guitar
• Visualizing and understanding modes of vibration
• Relating modes of vibration to guitar frequency response curves
• Measuring frequency response curves
• Relating frequency response curves to generic guitar types (classical, flamenco, steel string rhythm, steel string finger picking)
• Relating frequency response curves to modal vibrations and a guitar’s woodwork
• Defining what a responsive guitar actually is and showing how it can be measured
• How to achieve alluring tone, responsiveness and in-tuneness all at the same time
• Targeting the “right” modal frequencies and avoiding the wrong ones
• Requirements of a guitar as a static and dynamic structure
• Measuring material properties so that you can make the best of the wood you have rather than wishing for the wood you would like
• How to decide what thickness a particular top should be
• Bracing schemes for backs and tops
• Practical tuning of guitar modes: Moving from “as built” to “to design”

The course changes from year to year as Trevor finds new things to discuss and better ways of explaining the topics. If you've attended before (and many come more than once) you're very welcome to come again. There is always more to learn.

Here is what others have said about the course:

"I was luckily one of the participants in the first class. Despite having twice read the Design volume cover to cover and have been building based on the books I found the class really insightful and valuable. The three day class was very well structured and a lot of information was presented in a seemingly short period of time. Yet somehow Trevor was able to keep a loose interactive feel to the class; accepting questions and moving off on related tangents yet somehow ending every section on time. I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to attend one of his classes." – John

"As an aspiring builder (still on my first) it was great to move my focus out of the the woodwork project mindset and focus on the acoustic project side of things. So much information at times, but also many ideas too about what to do with my next build." - Brisbane Australia class

"It was a fantastic weekend. I experienced a quantum leap in understanding how a guitar works and how I might try to build one that works better. Trevor is a great teacher as well as a very good luthier." – Mark

"The course gave me a greater understanding of the design concepts in
Vol.1 of the "Book, I found the practical demonstrations particularly helpful.
The two guitars that I took along for testing did not fare so well, but at least
I now know how to try and remedy the short comings of each one.
It was also a great chance to socialize with other forum members."
Bruce

"It was a great experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be in the company of some world-class luthiers. The course was intensive but very enlightening and helped me to understand the theories and how to implement them when designing and building guitars. I would highly recommend attending this course if you have an opportunity." Steve

"Just had the privilege to attend a 3 day course with Trevor Gore to explain modal tuning etc. Wow, what a great mind expanding time". – Martin

"I did Trevor's course quite a while ago, best money I ever spent, It changed for the better how I built and accelerated my knowledge by many years in three days, I can absolutely recommend the course for anyone considering it." Paul

If you are interested in this rare opportunity to learn from the master, please contact me ASAP. Here is a video interview I did with Trevor on how to get more volume out of your guitar. He discusses this in detail in the masterclass.
