It's Not Too Late To Hear Magic!

Salem Symphonic Winds will take you to magical places with a bit of humor, passion, and beauty you never expected. As we enter our 49th season, we are having more fun than any adult band has reason to expect! Join us for an afternoon of creative takes on jazz from the viewpoint of composers who usually focus on Rock, Classical, and Movie music. We won't disappoint.
Hear Randy Kem knock it out of the park on Michael Kamen's Concerto for Saxophone. You might hear hints of Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, or Lethal Weapon, or just be seduced into the beauty of an enhanced band (think string basses, cellos, English horn, contrabassoon, and more percussion than you can shake several sticks at). It's a stunning work with great players - don't miss it!
The rest of the show is a view of jazz from some of the best composers in the business. Come and hear their takes on the blues (Frank Ticheli's Blue Shades), the piano stylings of Thelonious Monk (Melodious Thunk by David Biedenbender ), and a bunch of folks from the New York jazz scene (Cat's Tales by Peter Graham). We will cap the show with the most creative take possible of Strike Up the Band, arranged by Ira Hearshen.
