Let’s talk about mental healthJanuary 24 is Bell Let’s Talk Day. Mental health challenges can affect anyone, and mental health is just as important as physical health. Support is available. In the workplace, an employer cannot fire a worker, or deny them a job or promotion, because of a mental health issue or other disability. The Occupational Health and Safety Act sets out the rights and duties of workers, supervisors and employers when dealing with workplace violence and workplace harassment. If a worker experiences chronic or traumatic work-related mental stress they may be entitled to compensation under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Small businesses: Reimbursement for HSR training ends March 31A Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is required in most workplaces with six to 19 workers. Their role is to support health and safety in the workplace. Eligible small business employers can apply to be reimbursed for the HSR's training cost through the Ontario Small Business Health and Safety Training program. This program will be ending March 31, 2024. Employers who want to claim training costs must ensure HSR employees complete training and obtain a certificate of completion by 5:00 p.m. on March 31. Ontario Photo Card: Get proof of ID without a driver’s licenceThe Ontario Photo Card is a wallet-sized card that provides government-issued identification to Ontario residents who do not have a driver’s licence. It can be used in place of a driver’s licence for daily identification, like picking up a package or verifying age, banking and financial translations and travel within Canada. This workshop was jointly hosted by OCRC and Health Canada in December 2022 and attended by approximately 70 provincial, national and international stakeholders and scientific collaborators.
