Dear Parents, Learners, and Guardians

We hope this newsletter finds you well-rested and ready for the exciting year ahead. Welcome back to Rustenburg after the summer break! We warmly welcome both returning and new learners, with a special greeting to those new in Grade 8 and other grades.

As we kick off the academic year, we anticipate a year filled with new experiences, growth, and achievements. We encourage all parents to actively support their children's journey by participating in school events, cheering them on at sports competitions, and celebrating their accomplishments in cultural activities.

2023 NSC Results

We are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of the Class of 2023 in the NSC examination. With pride, we announce a 100% pass rate, with 98.7% achieving a bachelor's pass. What's even more gratifying is that 51% of our learners secured four or more subject distinctions and ten candidates achieved a 90%+ aggregate. An impressive 7 candidates achieved eight or more subject distinctions.

This is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and excellence exhibited by each and every member of the class. A heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2023 for their remarkable accomplishments!

A very big thank you to all the educators and school staff who have played a role in helping them achieve these goals; you are appreciated.

130th Birthday Celebration: Save the Date!

We are excited that RGHS will celebrate its 130th birthday this year. The festivities will culminate in a spectacular Carnival on Friday, 9th February. We invite the entire school community to join us for a day filled with fun, games, and high-quality street food vendors. It promises to be an event to remember, so mark your calendars and come make memories with us!

Mobile Phones at School: A Consideration

We kindly request parents to consider whether their child needs to bring a mobile phone to school. If so, please remember that the device's responsibility lies with the learner. The school cannot accept liability for lost phones. Each student is provided with a locker for securing valuable items, so please ensure they have a good quality combination lock. Keep the combination in a safe place in case they forget it.

Adventure Trip Details and Interest Forms

Stay tuned for an upcoming letter detailing this year's exciting adventure trips. To avoid disappointment, please complete and submit the interest forms promptly. These trips are an excellent opportunity for personal growth and bonding, and we encourage all eligible students to participate.

Fees, Uniforms, and School Pride:

This is a friendly reminder that learners with outstanding fees cannot partake in optional excursions and tours. We appreciate your prompt attention to ensure a smooth and inclusive learner experience.

Additionally, we take pride in our school uniform and consider it a representation of our shared identity. Parents, please ensure that uniforms are neat, regulations are followed, and your child respects their peers by following school uniform rules.

We look forward to an exceptional year filled with achievements, laughter, and growth. Thank you for being an integral part of the RGHS family.

Wishing you all the best for the upcoming academic year!

Parking/Car Stickers

In order to ensure the ongoing safety and security of our learners, staff and parents, all vehicles that regularly drop off and collect learners must display the Thorburn 2024 Security Sticker to avoid having to be scanned and signed in.

Please use the following link in order to complete the 2024 Vehicle Registration Form.  If your family uses more than one vehicle (e.g. another family member who drops/collects), please click on the +Add Row icon, and add the additional vehicle/s.   The form needs to be completed by Wednesday, 24 January. The car stickers will be issued to your child in their tutor class and they will need to sign for them.

Once you’ve received it, please place the sticker on the inside of your car windscreen, on the drivers’ side, so the security officers can see it easily. Please do not put the sticker on the passenger side, or in the tinted sections of the windscreen. If you get a new car during the year, please register the new one.

2023 Matric Further Studies Results

29 learners wrote Further Studies (FS) Examinations for either English or Mathematics at the end of 2023. Further Studies subjects (previously known as Advanced Programme subjects) expose learners to tertiary level concepts. Content is presented in lecture style and work is independent and unmonitored (similar to University courses). We are pleased to announce that 6 learners obtained A aggregates, and those worth a special mention are Stella Lazarus and Caitlin Anstey who both obtained over 90% for Further Studies Mathematics and Tejal Naiker who obtained over 80% for both Further Studies English and Further Studies Mathematics. Congratulations to all 29 learners who showed a great deal of dedication towards mastering these subjects.
