PWI Newsletter for February

Take a look at what we have going on.

The L.I.N.K.S Initiative Month at a glance

Friday, January 5th was World Braille Day. Since we support the differences in people, we took some time out to learn about Braille and how people that can not see are able to read through the use of Braille.

They watched an informative video about the origin and and significance of Braille. They learned how to write the alphabet using Braille then went to paint their own names in Braille.  The westside location went on a scavenger hunt throughout the church to see where they could find signs with Braille on them. They took time feeling them, and discussing them. They also took part in a few activities where they had to do something without the use of their eyes to see how well they could manage as a person who cannot see. It’s always a good thing to put yourself in someone else’s shoes to see the challenges and obstacles they may face on a daily basis.

A Few Reminders….

There are a few important reminders that we need to call out to all of the families/staff of our Members. For us to encourage our Members to do the right thing, we need to ensure that we are setting the example for them.

Please park your car walk the member into the program in the AM and come inside to pick them up in the PM.

When arriving at Project WILL in the AM or PM, you need to enter the program. You cannot just drop them off and go. You need to bring them inside of the building and inside of our program doors to help ensure their safety. We also need you to park your car in a spot and come inside the program doors in the afternoon so we can see who we are releasing the member to.  Please do not block the entrance doors, as we have buses that pick people up and need to be accessible. We thank you for your cooperation in making this happen.  Again, their safety is our priority.

Each member needs to arrive daily no later than 9:30 AM and be there for their full shift for the day, to be picked up at 4:00 PM.

We are teaching our Members the importance of following the rules and procedures of an employer, and working your full scheduled shift.  We treat their days scheduled with us as “their scheduled shift for their job.”  When coming to a job, you need to be there for the entirety of your shift.  Our members need to arrive anytime between 8:45 am - 9:30 am and be picked up at 4:00 pm.  I know this is a change from what many people have been doing, but this is reinforcing our expectations of them.

Provide any days off from their normal schedule to us in writing by the 20th of the month prior.

For example, If a member has an appointment on 3/5/24 they need to provide written notice to Project WILL by 2/20/24 of the upcoming absence. This is for any planned absences such as Doctor appointments, Vacations, etc.  If there is an unplanned absence due to illness, please have them call us to inform us they will be absent for the day at 317-436-7524. Please try to schedule appointments on days they are not scheduled to be at Project WILL.

Please remember, that we follow Washington Township Schools for weather-related closures. If the school is closed, we will be closed. If they are delayed, we will be open regular business hours.

If the Member is not in attendance due to weather, again please ensure they call us to inform us of their absence.  Moving forward, all attendance and tardiness will be documented and addressed accordingly.

Again, your reinforcement with our Members of these rules and expectations is imperative and will help them to learn and grow.  Please help us teach them how to hold themselves accountable.  Thank you for your help with this!

Become a Project WILL Insider

What is a Project WILL Insider? Being a Project WILL Insider gains you access to an exclusive club that helps to support our program. It is a way to give back to the population we serve and help to support them.  You can watch them strengthen their independence and work hard toward a fulfilling life, take pride in their accomplishments and strive to become a contributing member of their community. Any little bit makes a whole world of difference for us and our Members, and even makes a stronger statement when it is a continual gift.

Could you give $5 a month to purchase a one way voucher for transportation for a member to get to/from the program ?

How about $15 a month to cover the cost of a Fun Friday Event for them to learn how to cook a special meal on their own, or to go see a movie with their peers?

How about spending $25 a month to cover the cleaning supplies we use to stop the spread of germs for those that typically are high risk for illness?

Every little bit helps more than you can imagine.  Without people becoming a Project WILL Insider, we can’t do what we do for our members each day.  So please consider signing up.
