Dear <<First Name>>,
February 20, 2024
Winter Model UN Session A a great success!
The unexpected snow amount last Friday caused a bit of concern about holding the February 17 High School Model UN, but we carried on and had a great, albeit smaller, session with very engaged students. The benefit of fewer participants was plenty of time for all delegates to speak (and extra snacks for all!). Some countries spoke on every proposed resolution with questions, comments, and/or amendment suggestions. The topics all centered on humanitarian issues, including encouraging “peaceful” nuclear energy development to better tackle Climate Change, extending disability rights and rights for women, curbing gang violence in Haiti, and improving prison conditions. The engagement and enthusiasm from everyone was infectious and exciting. The new venue was well-received, too. Students enjoyed the wider chairs (they even rocked a bit!) and wider rows for getting in and out of seats. The abundance of windows and sunny, warm auditorium belied the frigid temps outside, creating a cozy conference.
Any delegates who couldn’t make it on Saturday are welcome to attend the March 2 session. Please sign up again.
Thanks to all who filled out the evaluation! The Amazon gift card winners were Anna Fleetwood (Liberty), Siboney Oviedo-Gray (MICDS) and Hyeonuk Seo (Chaminade).

HSMUN Session B is March 2!
`
Session B will also be held in Winifred Moore Auditorium, accessible through Webster University's Main Hall.

The final High School Model UN session of this school year will be Sat., March 2, 9:00 am until noon. It will be in the Winifred Moore Auditorium on Webster University's campus inside the Main Hall at 470 East Lockwood, 63119. Parking is plentiful across the street, along Lockwood, and behind the building off Plymouth Blvd (MAP).

Some important reminders and points to know:
  • Since this is a larger venue, there is plenty of room for all students interested.
  • Students should represent the same countries they had in the fall or another country your school drafted in the fall.
  • New students are welcome. If your school did not draft countries in the fall, click here to choose a country that has no school name(s) next to it, preferably before you sign up.
  • There will most likely be some duplicate country delegations. We will have separate voting placards for duplicates.
  • If you submitted a resolution in the fall that was not discussed, it will have priority on the list. However, please review it/revise it and resubmit it to Stephanie (gavinstephanie89@gmail.com) by midnight on Tuesday, February 27 so we have plenty of time to create the Master copy and send it to FedEx for printing.
  • New resolutions are also welcomed and encouraged.
Interested in talking about Heather McGhee's book with other students?

The main theme of the book, racism in America in the past and present, will provide plenty of discussion points, even if you don't have time to read the whole book! But before we schedule our book talk, we'd like to gather times and days that are most convenient for the most people. Please CLICK HERE to tell us what works best for you.

We still have several free copies of the book. Let Civitas know if you would like one.
Are you a rising sophomore, junior, or senior, looking for an early summer opportunity? Consider applying to the STL Changemakers Program!
