Sunday Service

The Face of Justice

Sunday, February 11th
10:30am
Join us in person or Zoom!

What are the practical ways we can 'do' the work of justice in the world?
Is a willingness to help others all that is demanded of us?

Join us for a Potluck after service!
Bring a dish that will serve 5 or more people, along with your own plates and silverware. Please let Melissa Ahern know if you can help with set-up &/or clean-up.

Pub Theology

Join us Saturday, February 10th at 6pm in Kirkland Urban Chainline Brewery. This month we will discuss the topic of Evil: Media often portrays humans as locked in a cosmic struggle between the forces of good versus evil. How does this resonate for you? Do you believe in evil? What would you define as evil? How do we, as progressive and liberal people, respond to evil in our world?
For more information email Rev. Nancy, nreidmckee@northlakeuu.org

Creative Circle: Water Challenge

The Creative Circle would like to launch the Water Challenge to the entire congregation. This piece of art can be anything that can be hung on a wall of the sanctuary but not exceed 3" in depth. Photos, fine art, metal, clay, fabric, fiber, you name it. All art forms will be accepted. Reach out to Mary De Friel, mary@defriel.com, for more information.

Reproductive Freedom Shabbat

Kol Ami is inviting Northlake to their Reproductive Freedom Shabbat on Friday, 2/9 at 7:30pm. "We hope to have a speaker from a local pro-choice activist group. And to bond over our shared efforts to maintain and regain our reproductive freedoms." We are also invited to their reception following the evening service. Please join us!

Join Marianna Tostada-Alvarez and the Board to discuss the Mission & Vision of Northlake. The conversation to review and revise the Northlake mission & vision statements started a year ago with Janet Hall & Marianna, and the new language is ready for another round of discussion and input. Please join Marianna to offer your input about what the purpose and goals of our church could be.

Youth Group Mini-Con/Overnight
for 9th-12th graders

Shoreline UU (Shoreline WA) is hosting a high school youth group overnight March 2nd-3rd! There is a detailed description at the top of the page in the registration form! Registration is open now through February 16th. Please email Margaret (DLRE@northlakeuu.org) for more information or with any questions.

Creative Circle: Play Day

All Northlake crafters are invited to join Creative Circle for a Play Day on Saturday Feb. 17th from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm in the Sanctuary.

We'll be hanging the religious symbols show on Saturday. If you have a piece at home that you would like to have included, please bring it before lunch on Saturday. Bring lunch and enjoy a day of crafting!

Reminder, there is added security on the campus because of the increase of threats to Jewish communities. It will help if you wave at any security personnel you see and let them know that you are attending the Creative Circle in the Main Sanctuary. There will be lanyards for everyone when you arrive. Kol Ami is posting a person at each entrance, so enter only through the upstairs doors, and explain that you are here for the Creative Circle Play Day. If you have any concerns, give Robin a call and she can meet you at your car or at the front door.

This is a small way for us to stay in alignment with and support our extended community to be safe :)

Making Good Trouble

Faced in a time of rising fascism and Christian Nationalism, we must attend to our democracy. These next few months we are hosting a series of workshops and events to keep us aware and united in our work. Please join us! And if you might be interested in planning vigils, rallies or workshops, please let Rev. Nancy know!

Sunday, Feb. 18th  11:45-1:00 10 Tactics of Fascism. We will watch a 10 minutes video from Jason Stanley about fascism. If you have time beforehand to read his book How Fascism Works, that would be good, but this video gives an overview of his major points. We will follow with a discussion.
Sunday, March 3 & 17th 2 part workshop with CB Beale identifying Christian Nationalism. If you have time to read Tim Alberta's book The Kingdom, The Power and the Glory beforehand, it would be a good introduction to these workshops.

Healthy Congregation Team

In case you missed the Town Hall on January 21st, here is some information on the Healthy Congregation Team. The Healthy Congregation Team helps congregants return to covenant when a conflict arises. If you approach us for assistance, we have a process we will follow. We will ask you to fill out a self-reflective worksheet and then we will review it with you. From there, we will determine the next steps.

Healthy Congregation Team members include:  Pablo Barcenas, Janet Kuller, Elaine Srinivas, and Rev. Nancy Reid-McKee. You may contact us collectively at hct@northlake.org or individually.

EIM: An introduction to Insight Dialogue

Thursday, Feb 15
7pm
Chapel

Based in the Buddhist tradition, Insight Dialogue harnesses the power of relationship to amplify, refine, and accelerate the development of mindfulness. Consisting of 6 meditative guidelines practiced in dyads or more,  the practice supports the wisdom of Dhamma to enter the heart and mind in an immediate and embodied way that is instantly applicable in daily life. Join us in discovering the profound impact of Insight Dialogue on fostering compassion, wisdom, and genuine human connection.

About event leader Anna-Brown Griswold
Anna-Brown fell in love with Insight Dialogue practice in 2012 after nearly twenty years of practice and study in the Tibetan and Zen koan lineages of Buddhism, including monastic practice and extended solitary retreats. For most of her adult life she’s been experimenting with how to integrate the awakening power of dharma practice, the skills of psychotherapeutic healing, and an embodied lens of social justice. Anna-Brown currently shares Insight Dialogue practice online and locally in Seattle, WA, where she works as a trauma therapist and facilitator.  As a mom to a toddler, bringing Insight Dialogue into the whole beautiful mess of parenting is an ongoing practice.
