It’s almost 2025!  Have you checked out CSUN’s Graduation Initiative 2025 (GI2025) metrics lately?  We are nearly at our goal of 30% for our 4-year graduation rate for first-time freshmen (29.7% for the Fall 2019 cohort), more than doubling the rate we started with at the kick-off of GI2025 back in 2016 (14.2% for the Fall 2012 cohort)!  You can check in on these rates, including graduation rates by college in the CSUN Graduation Initiative 2025 Metrics dashboard, located right on the homepage of CSUN Counts!

CSUN’s University Student Union (USU) employed more than 3,500 students between 2010 and 2018.  The USU is a student-centered organization that seeks to enhance the university experience via different programs, services, initiatives, and student employment opportunities.  IR partnered with staff at the USU to examine the impact of USU student employment on academic outcomes.  Among other benefits, we found that student employment at the USU was associated with an improved probability of retention into the second year by 12 percentage points!

As part of our student success efforts, in Fall 2019 we encouraged first-time freshmen to enroll in 15 or more units, based on a robust body of research that credit momentum (taking 15 or more units in the first semester, or 30 or more units in the first year) is associated with higher graduation rates, especially for minoritized students.  Now that we are nearly 5 years into this work, we have refreshed our Credit Momentum dashboard where we share demographics of momentum students and outcomes associated with momentum status.  Explore the dashboard to learn more about momentum students in your college and outcomes disaggregated by student characteristics!
