ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: NO MORE TOLERANCE FOR FEMICIDE.

The TICAH team at the FEMICIDE March on 27th of January in Nairobi.

“We said their names, and we cried for and with them”
In January, tragedy struck as 14 women have lost their lives in Kenya, sparking a powerful response from both women and men on January 27th. They gathered in a united protest against gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide. Women in Kenya are now calling for immediate action, asking for a presidential declaration recognizing this crisis. They seek the creation of a diverse Commission on the Elimination of Femicide, better data systems, and a reorganized State Department of Gender. Alongside this, they emphasize compliance with the two-thirds gender rule, an inclusive appointment process, and a strong commitment to zero tolerance for GBV and femicide from political leaders.

This demand for change extends to public accountability, disciplinary actions within political parties, and the representation of feminists in key public bodies. Amidst this call for transformation, the TICAH family joined a march, adding their voices to raise awareness about the persistent issue of femicide. TICAH stands firm, condemning such behavior and committing to the ongoing fight against gender-based violence. This united call for justice and equality seeks policies and perceptions that create a safer and fairer environment for women in Kenya.

2024 Calendar: Healthy Seeds/Mbegu Njema

2024 Calendar: Healthy Seeds/Mbegu Njema

In 2010, we kicked off the creation of our lovely teaching calendar with the theme "Healthy Seeds/Mbegu Njema." The TICAH Calendar features charming Kenyan art, inspiring quotes, and important historical events. Each month includes "healthy seeds" like simple herbal recipes for common illnesses, values open for discussion, historical snippets, and questions perfect for group talks in schools, colleges, clubs, and classrooms. It also incorporates excerpts from the Kenyan Constitution and other laws. We provide training on using the calendar in schools, colleges, and community groups, occasionally offering free copies. Get your hands on our delightful calendar crafted to spark learning and meaningful conversations in the communities we engage with.

Unleashing Creativity in 2024

Get ready for an exhilarating journey as the Art Department gears up for a year of innovation and transformation in 2024. Exciting changes are on the horizon, reshaping the way we approach art and its intersection with our community.

From the dynamic world of public art to the continuation of art residencies forging connections and evolving work, we're breaking new ground. Small grants are set to fuel imaginative and wonderfully unconventional projects, demonstrating our commitment to pushing artistic boundaries.

Our spotlight shines on the curation of exhibitions and events, where we aim to underline the profound impact of art and culture. The goal is to not only engage minds but also touch hearts, fostering changemaking through immersive experiences.

But it doesn't stop there. Our commitment extends to community building and connections, providing spaces for artists and cultural practitioners to share their stories. In doing so, we contribute to the broader canvas of health and wellness through meaningful connections.

In 2024, the Art Department isn't just evolving; it's leading the charge. Join us in this exciting journey as we explore new possibilities and make a lasting mark on the world.

Here's to a year of boundless creativity and community enrichment!

See you guys soon
