FIRST YEAR STUDENTS TO “ADAPT@DUT”

For the past few days, the newly elected Durban University of Technology (DUT) Student Representative Council (SRC) have been attending the SRC Induction organised by the DUT Student Governance and Development unit. The five-day induction started on Monday, 29 January 2024 at the eMakhosini Botique Hotel and is set to end on Friday, 02 February 2024.

Facilitating the sessions is Ms Kholeka Mfeka, Clubs and Societies Administrator at DUT.

Throughout the induction the student leaders were encouraged to develop fruitful and healthy relationships with the various University stakeholders.

DUT JOIN FORCES TO HONOUR AND RAISE FUNDS FOR THE CHILDREN OF PALESTINE

The Urban Futures Centre (UFC) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in collaboration with 2 Suns Shamsaan and People Against Oppression (PAO) will be hosting a solidarity and fundraising event called Butterfly Souls Family Day-Supporting Gaza’s Children at the Peoples Park in the Moses Mabhida precinct on Sunday, 04 February 2024 from 10h00 to 16h00.

According to Prof Monique Marks, the Head of Urban Futures Centre at DUT, the event will be filled with exciting activities to honour the thousands of Palestinian children who have been killed. She indicated that the aim of the event is to join South Africans who want to create a world of peace.

THE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES CELEBRATES THEIR RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS AT ITS ANNUAL RESEARCH DAY

The Faculty of Health Sciences hosted its Annual Research Day for 2023 on Thursday, 25 January 2024, at Coastlands on the Ridge, Musgrave.

The programme director of the event was Professor Julian D Pillay, who commenced the programme by highlighting the aim of the event, which was to showcase some of the research undertaken by students and staff in the faculty and provide an opportunity for academics, students, and industry partners to share knowledge, practices, and ideas for future research.

DUT AND 2 SUNS SHAMSAAN HOSTED A BUTTERFLY SOULS WORKSHOP IN SUPPORT FOR THE CHILDREN OF PALESTINE

The Urban Futures Centre (UFC) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in partnership with 2 Suns Shamsaan played host to an event called Butterfly Souls to profile the loss of life and injuries suffered by the children of Palestine in the conflict with Israel.

The Butterfly Souls project is an inspiring idea where South African children acknowledge, remember and honour those that have been killed in Gaza.

The Butterfly Souls workshop took place at the Alliance Française de Durban in Morningside, on Saturday, 27 January 2024. Each child in attendance chose a name of one child in Palestine whose name was written on the butterfly.

DUT LIBRARY HOSTED ITS EXCITING 2023 STAFF RECOGNITION AWARDS

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Library hosted its annual DUT Library Staff Recognition Awards for 2023. The awards were held at the Coastlands Hotel and Conference Centre Musgrave, on Friday 26 January 2024.

Nhlanhla Nhleko and Romeo Matumba were the programme directors for the day. Delivering the welcome speech and purpose the day was Nonsikelelo Badenhorst.

“We are gathered here to celebrate us, to celebrate our hard work, our dedication, and our utmost contribution as the library staff. This is an important event for us as library staff and I certainly hope you will all enjoy this special occasion,” she said.

DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Waheeda Peters, spoke to Kimera Naicker who is an Administrator at the DUT-IREC office.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I am an Administrator at DUT-IREC office. I am responsible for overseeing and managing the ethical review process for undergraduate research conducted at the DUT.
