The University of Minnesota "M" is stacked on top of the words "Women's Center;" both are in white lettering.

March 2024

March is Women's History Month. Here are some things to consider when celebrating or discussing Women's History Month.
Our apologies for not getting a newsletter out in February! As you'll see below, the Women's Center has been moving through many transitions and have been moing at a lower capacity. We will send out two newsletters this March before getting back into a monthly groove in April! Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Interim Director Announcement
In our last newsletter, we shared the bittersweet news of our dear Anitra Cottledge stepping down from her role as Women's Center Director and begins a new journey as the Director of Programs at Headwaters Foundation for Justice. Anitra is already deeply missed – her care, humor, dedication, and thoughtful leadership will be carried on in our work always. She leaves behind a legacy of joyful justice and creative collaboration from her presence in the Women's Leadership Institute to Our Voices to establishing deep relationships with campus partners to her mentorship of so many and so much more. She is a shining (although quiet about it) example of how liberation is embodied. We are immensely grateful for all the ways Anitra has demonstrated feminism as an everyday practice of care; we hope to celebrate that every day forward. Thank you infinitely, Anitra!

In this newsletter, we are excited to share that Anna Lifson, MSW, LICSW (she/they) has begun her role as the Interm Director as of February 5th! Prior to assuming this role, Anna was the Assistant Director of the Women's Center as of 2021 and has served in multiple roles at the University of Minnesota including, but not limited to, Care Manager, adjunct faculty member in the School of Social work, and more! She has made wonderful additions to the Women's Center programming such as our Deconstructing White Feminism workshops and accountability groups, supervising our graduate interns, offering her expertise in facilitation and teaching, and more. They value accountability, connection, and collaboration in the work of transforming ourselves, our University, and our world. We are so excited to enter this new era with grace and fervor! Thank you and welcome, Anna!

FLAGS JP Presents: Palestine is a Feminist Issue

March 8th, 6 PM
Moon Palace Books; 3032 Minnehaha Ave

This conversation focuses on the importance of ceasefire, divestment, and Palestinian liberation to feminist scholarship and activism. How does the Israeli apartheid state instrumentalize sexual violence? What does reproductive justice have to do with the Palestinian liberation? How do U.S. women of color feminisms relate to Palestinian struggle for freedom? What does feminist solidarity with Palestine look like? How do we build coalitions that are neither complicit with colonial feminism nor with cisheteropatriarchy?
