ANNOUNCEMENTS

ARPA-H Intent to Submit & Workshops
ARPA-H logoWhile it may not be clear in the RFP, most ARPA-H funding opportunities are limited submission opportunities, allowing only one application per institution. Anyone interested in applying for an ARPA-H funding opportunity must submit to the OVPR Call for Intent to Submit.

For the PARADIGM program, there is a limit of two abstracts per institution per technical area (TA) and one proposal per institution per TA. Please respond to the Call for Intent to Submit if you are planning to submit an abstract.

Workshop Coaching Events
Learn more about the ARPA-H proposal format and the tools, templates and services OVPR is providing to faculty interested in pursuing ARPA-H funding. Each workshop will give faculty tools to develop their research ideas and is followed by a 30 minute Q&A.

OVPR relaunches Research Commons for funding opportunities and honorifics
U-M Research logoOVPR relaunched a digital hub for U-M researchers to easily identify and apply for internal funding opportunities to advance their work. Research Commons automatically pulls all internal funding opportunities, limited submissions and honorifics from across the various U-M InfoReady Review accounts, consolidating all applications in one webpage.

In doing so, Research Commons eliminates the need for U-M researchers to navigate through multiple websites. The relaunched tool allows researchers to filter internal funding opportunities, honorifics and limited submissions based on keywords, fields of study and eligibility across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses. Results can then be sorted by title or submission deadline dates.

Any units using application systems other than InfoReady can submit their opportunities manually, and those opportunities will be added to the central Research Commons list.

Register for Bold Challenges 2024 kickoff and events

Bold Challenges University of Michigan logoThe Bold Challenges Initiative will host its annual kickoff event February 20, 1-4 pm, to launch the 2024-2025 Boost application cycle and announce five new research themes that aim to address some of the world’s most critical issues. Bold Challenges’ 2024 themes range in scope from advancing human health at scale to creating sustainable energy solutions.

The February event will feature lightning talks from U-M researchers, discussions on how to generate more competitive proposals and opportunities to network with representatives from multidisciplinary centers and institutes.

Throughout the winter semester, Bold Challenges also will host five workshops designed to foster engagement so members of the U-M community can identify collaborators, share ideas and find new sources of support for interdisciplinary innovations. One of those sources includes Bold Challenges’ Boost program, which supports new and early-stage multidisciplinary teams whose ambitious, transdisciplinary projects have substantial potential for significant large-scale funding.

Faculty and staff should register for the upcoming kickoff and pollination events on the Bold Challenges website, where researchers also can learn about the 2024  themes.

Anti-Racism Research & Community Impact Faculty Fellowship
NCID U-M logoNCID’s Anti-Racism Collaborative (ARC) is offering a fellowship to provide instrumental support to early career faculty to advance their anti-racism scholarship in ways that can lead to successful tenure/promotion and support efforts to use their expertise to fight systemic racism through policy advocacy, practice, teaching, and/or community partnerships.

While interest in power relationships that perpetuate white supremacy is foundational to the call, ARC welcomes projects grounded in broad perspectives on anti-racism, prior to and in parallel with the concept’s current popularity.

ARC seeks applications from early career faculty for projects that do not easily meet the criteria of traditional funding sources for research and scholarship but are critical to supporting a scholar’s work in the academy, as well as in dismantling systemic racism. Learn more and apply by March 22.
