Niagara Falls Exchange

Clark Bernat, Senior Manager of Culture, shared details of the official opening of the Niagara Falls Exchange on Saturday, February 17, 2024. 

The Exchange is a 10,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor multipurpose event space created to foster and incubate the city's Food, Music, Art and Culture scenes. The Exchange is the new home of the Niagara Falls Famers' Market, in addition to artist & woodworking studios, an art gallery, an on-site café (opening at a later date), and more.  

All are welcome to an Open House on Saturday, February 17, from 10 am to 4 pm. The free, drop-in style event will feature art installations, live music, activities, vendors and more. The community will be able to explore the new Arts & Culture facility, located at 5943 Sylvia Place.

Prototype Art & Fashion Show 

Dillon Douglas, the founder and event manager of the Prototype Art & Fashion Show, provided Council with details about his upcoming event on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Niagara Falls Exchange. 

Prototype, partially funded by the Niagara Falls Cultural Development Fund, is an all-inclusive art and fashion show. This ticketed event will include an open bar and catering.

Presentation by resident David Rupay

Resident David Rupay presented to Council on the aggregate industry in Ontario and the need for a moratorium. The request was referred to Staff.

  • Treasurer's Write-Off Report Under Section 354 of The Municipal Act, 2001
    • Council authorized that the Treasurer write off taxes as uncollectible totaling $668.81, where a tax sale would be ineffective or inappropriate.
  • Validity of Drainage Petition
    • Council instructed K. Smart Associates Limited to prepare one final Engineer’s Report to address both Petitions for Drainage works, pursuant to the Drainage Act, R.S.O. 1990, received from 5981 Willow Road and 3313 Willow Road.

World's Parkinson's Awareness Day
Council approved a request from The Passion for Parkinson's Foundation to proclaim Thursday, April 11, as World Parkinson's Awareness Day.

World Parkinson's Day is celebrated every year to raise awareness about Parkinson's Disease, a degenerative neurological disease that currently has no cure.

Flag Raising and Proclamation Request  | April 25, 2024
Parental Alienation Awareness Day
Niagara Falls City Council proclaimed April 25, 2024, as "Parental Alienation Awareness Day" and will coordinate a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall. The goal of this day is to provide support, education, and resources to families affected by alienation by being an advocate for change in the legal, mental health, and judicial system to end parental alienation across Canada.

Restoration Day of the Dominican Republic
Council approved a request from the Dominican Republic community for a flag-raising ceremony at Niagara Falls City Hall and a special illumination of Niagara Falls with the flag's colours on Monday, August 19, 2024, to celebrate their heritage and history.
