Eco Tip 🍃
This week's Eco Tip comes from Christine Cubitt.

Ever wondered what happened to all those empty toothpaste tubes we threw away over our lifetimes? That’s right. They ended up in landfills where they will take 500 hundred years to decompose, or worse still, they are floating around in our oceans.

1.5 billion toothpaste tubes are thrown away each year.

In recent times, a few toothpaste manufacturers have been working hard to develop tubes that can be recycled by being broken down into tiny pellets that can then go to creating even more plastic products. To produce the tubes themselves involves a resource-intensive process and the actual toothpaste may even contain microplastics.

An eco-alternative is the toothpaste tablet that comes in a glass jar which is re-fillable.
There’s plenty of choice so there’s sure to be one that suits you. They can be bought via the internet and in some high street stores – Sainsbury, Boots, Holland & Barrett. Perhaps this is an alternative you might consider to help reduce plastic pollution.

N.B. Don't forget, the Big Plastic Count takes place 11 - 17 March.  Get involved:
