DUT SPACE SCIENCE AND CNS RESEARCH CENTRE SIGNS MOU WITH SA SPACE TECHNOLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION IN THE PURSUIT OF COLLABORATION IN SPACE SCIENCE

The Space Science and Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) Research Centre in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the South African Space Technology for Sustainable Development Foundation at the Department of Electrical Power Engineering, Steve Biko campus on Friday, 16 February 2024.

Representing DUT in the signing ceremony was Professor Sudesh Rathilal, Executive Dean: Faculty of Engineering and the Build Environment and the South African Space Technology for Sustainable Development Foundation was represented by its Chairman, Mr Thabani Mazibuko, who is also a DUT alumnus.

SRC FINANCE OFFICER, SIHLE NKOSI URGES THE DUT COMMUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THE GROWTH OF THE SRC GRANT

The Student Representative Council (SRC) Finance Officer at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Sihle Nkosi is urging the DUT community to contribute towards the growth of the SRC grant, which is aimed at assisting students with financial burden, to pay their registration fees or clear their historical debt.

His wish is for the SRC grant to reach as many needy students as possible, to offer financial relief.

Nkosi, a third-year Internal Auditing student is responsible for the finances and budget of the SRC.

DUBE SHINES A LIGHT ON UNSUNG HEROES THROUGH HIS MAGAZINE, SOFTCOPY

The aim of nurturing a people-centred culture embodies the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) values and principles and is what drives the charismatic Andile Dube to espouse these Living Values through his 10-year-old magazine, Softcopy.

Dube, is the Information and Communications Officer under the helm of the Faculty of Arts and Design (FoAD). Prior to joining the faculty, he was an entertainment and lifestyle journalist for the New Age newspaper. In his current role, he is responsible for generating high-quality written material, including news, features, and reports; and maintaining social media platforms and websites to promote the faculty.

CHIROPRACTIC STUDENTS TAKE THE LEAD IN HEALING ATHLETES AT SAMA HALF MARATHON

The Department of Chiropractic at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) takes pride in its active involvement, in providing care for athletes who took part in the South African Medical Association (SAMA) Half Marathon, hosted by the Phoenix Villagers Athletics Club at Kings Park Athletic Stadium on 18 February, 2024.

Under the guidance of clinician, Dr Junaid Shaik, six senior chiropractic students, Imaan Fakir, Jasmine Lloyd, Sarah Milne, Nabeelah Khan, Dayle Swanepoel, Tia Botha, and Huveshan Pillay energetically addressed various musculoskeletal injuries and conditions experienced by participants after completing the SAMA Half Marathon.

DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Patience Makhaye, spoke to Okuhle Nkosithembile Ngubane, a Personal Assistant to the Senior Director-Real Estates Management.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I am an interim Personal Assistant to the Senior Director-Real Estates Management. I am the liaison personnel between staff and the Senior Director.”
