In addition to the many local boards and committees, I also serve as your representative on a few state and federal boards. One of those boards is the National Association of Counties (NACO). Recently, this service took me to Washington, D.C. as a delegate at NACO's Annual Legislative Conference. Representing the interests on over 3,000 counties across the Country, NACO is a powerful lobbying force and this conference is where we review and develop our legislative advocacy platform.
The conference includes a meeting of the NACO Health Policy Steering Committee where I represent our California State Association of Counties. Two years ago I authored a resolution to add a position in support of reproductive rights to the platform - and this year I co-sponsored resolutions to: support federal funding for Doula programs; study strategies to reduce Veteran suicide, and support federal investments in healthcare workforce development.
It was an exciting week of engaging policy discussions and 1:1 meetings with our Congressional delegation that I know will turn into results back here at home.
Sincerely, Wendy
