St. Patrick's News Briefly

A. Just Happened
B. Happening Now
C. About to Happen

A. Just Happened:
 1. On Shrove Tuesday there was a fine turnout to eat pancakes and wear some Mardi Gras beads. Thanks to Ron Keith for organizing the feast and to Brian Borgfeldt, Karen Borgfeldt, Eleanor Albon and others for making the pancakes, serving them and cleaning up.
 2. Thanks to all those who attended the Ash Wednesday services, some at 10am and others at 5pm. Several people also stayed to walk the Stations of the Cross after
receiving the Ashes and receiving communion. The Stations will stay up during Lent. Booklets are available for whomever wants to walk the stations.
 3. The New Vestry did meet for a workshop on February 10th and for their regular monthly meeting on February 21st. The big items at the workshop was reviewing the committees and talking about special trainings for Vestry members. The big items at the regular meeting were approving a search and getting bids for some technological improvements for our zoom capabilities and for making sure there are links for other Episcopal Sources on the Grapevine and on the website. The Vestry also approved St. Patrick's Parochial Report for programs, attendance and financials for 2023. The parochial report is an annual requirement that goes to the Statisticians of the National Church. See photo below - Vestry at work

B. Happening Now:
 1. Those who registered are going to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art on Wednesday, February 28th. Dennis McCaffery is docent. see the announcement below for more details.
 2. The Russian River Deanery clergy and several senior Wardens are meeting on Thursday, February 29th at St. Paul's in Healdsburg. They meet every few months to share stories and ways to collaborate in accomplishing certain ministries.

C. About to Happen:
 1. On March 2nd there is a zoom training for people interested in joining a team to interview anyone thinking about being ordained. This is a special and important ministry - see the graphics below.
 2. Look also at the graphics headlined "Leadership Conferences". This is especially for vestry members, but anyone can join the zoom.
 3. On Saturday, March 9th St. Patrick's will celebrate the Life of Bruce Marts at 2pm - His family has been members for many years.
 4. We will also celebrate the Life of Carol Gwatkin on March 17th with a memorial service and interment in the Memorial Garden.
 5. For a heads up - here is the schedule for Holy Week and Easter.
Palm Sunday - March 24th - 10AM
Maundy Thursday - March 28th - 5PM
Good Friday - March 29th - Noon and 5PM
Easter Sunday - March 31st - 10AM
Many more details next week about The Holy Week Worship Services.

 6. Once the rains subside, you can expect the wonderful green field to be mowed and for flowers to be blooming. The property task force, headed by Jr. Warden Ron Keith may schedule a clean up day before Easter. There has to be a some well groomed places to hide Easter Eggs.

FIELD TRIP TO SONOMA VALLEY MUSEUM OF ART

Field Trip to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art
To see
Tsherin Sherpa’s Different Worlds
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 1 P.M.

This exhibition presents the captivating artworks of Tsherin Sherpa, a masterful contemporary California artist whose creations seamlessly merge traditional and modern aesthetics. Born in Kathmandu, Nepal, Sherpa emigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1998. His work is grounded in his personal experiences within the Himalayan Diaspora and rigorous training as a thangka painter. (traditional Tibetan Buddhist art). Upon relocating to the United States, Sherpa developed a distinct artistic practice blending his traditional training and culture with contemporary perspectives, bridging Eastern and Western aesthetics. (SVMA program leaflet.)

Sponsored by the Education Ministry of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, this museum field trip is free and promises to be a wonderful and informative experience led by Docent Dennis McCaffrey. A donation to the Museum is always appreciated!

Please reserve a spot by calling the Church office at 707-833-4228. Please meet at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art at 551 Broadway, Sonoma. For questions, contact Lauriehogen@gmail.com.

BBC - SCHOOLS

Becoming A Beloved Community - Schools

BUILDING LIBRARY COLLECTIONS TO INCLUDE RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING OF CULTURES AND DIVERSITY WHILE ENHANCING COMPASSION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

Join this special opportunity to provide books for the libraries at El Verano School and Kenwood School! Stories from diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds as well as biographies of ordinary citizens doing extraordinary work to make a difference in our American society. Titles such as “All are Welcome Here”, “Ordinary People Change the World”, “I am....Muhammad Ali, ...Marie Curie”, “Chocolate Milk, Por Favor: Celebrating Diversity with Empathy” and many more will update the collections in both schools.

Here is how you can participate: Each donation of $15 buys one book; $30 provides 2 books and so on with a discount of 7 books for $100. Each donor will receive a receipt and the titles of the books purchased. Our goal is to provide at least 50 books by March 1 so that the schools will celebrate “Read Across America” on March 4 with many new books to read!

Any amount is greatly appreciated! Please send a check, noting in the memo, “BBC-Schools Books” and the number of books to be funded, to St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 247, Kenwood, California 95452. St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church is a 501(C3) entity.

Thank you so very much!

Blessing Bags

There are lists of contents on a table in the narthex.

Here’s what goes in the Blessing Bags:
1 pop top can of pasta with meat
1 juice box
1 granola-type bar
1 package of crackers with cheese or peanut butter
A napkin and sturdy plastic fork
Place everything in a quart-sized plastic bag.  The stretchable Glad bags work very well.  If you like, you can include a short hopeful message.

Blessing Bag Report, February 2024

Members of St Patrick’s again were generous in their donations of 60 Blessing Bags to the Redwood Gospel Mission.  That number was close to the record 67 set in December 2023. Thank you to all of you who donated in February and kept some people fed who otherwise would have gone hungry.   The generosity in our congregation is truly remarkable and inspiring.
The deadline for the next opportunity to donate Blessing Bags is March 10.  You are welcome to leave them in the basket in the Narthex or drop them off at our home, 8399 Oakmont Dr, Santa Rosa, CA 95409. If you have questions about the Blessing Bags, please contact me by email rjurny@gmail.com or phone/text (408)981-2024.

When was the last time someone stopped everything to listened to you? They put down their phones, turned off the T.V., turned their bodies towards you, and listened intently to you? Listening is world altering gift. If you have the gift of listening I am asking you to join a Regional Discernment Group (RDG). We especially need people in the Russian River Deanery and Capital Deanery to join RDGs. We need people who are willing to listen and discern people’s calling. Deep listening acts as a mirror to help people see themselves and one of the greatest gifts you can give.

Please sign up here for the training on March 2nd.

Please contact The Rev. Anny Genato, pastoranny@staugustineepiscopal.com, if you have any questions.

Food Donations Needed
F.I.S.H. of Santa Rosa

IMPORTANT CHANGE

F.I.S.H’s current twice-a-month family distribution system is neither financially nor physically sustainable. Due to a dramatic increase in demand, our volunteers are overwhelmed, and we are dealing with an extreme decrease in donations. For these reasons, F.I.S.H. has reverted to a once-a-month policy as of January 01, 2024. This means that our clients will be able to receive 2 bags of groceries, ONCE a month.

To volunteer and donate, please go to our WEBSITE

About us:
ln 2023 F.I.S.H. served an average of 4,976 people per month, and historically approximately 35% of those helped are children. The number of people asking for assistance from FISH has increased dramatically since 2022. F.I.S.H is currently open five days per week to offer food to people in need - including seniors, homeless, unemployed, low-income, disabled, and  more...Your donations feed many.

Spread the LOVE!

Our friends at F.I.S.H. of Santa Rosa would like our help with peanut butter donations!  If you would like to bring in jars of peanut butter to help fulfill their needs to keep serving those in need. You can also bring canned soup and other food non-perishable items. Peanut butter is their greatest need at this time. You are welcome to bring other canned food and baby diapers!
Drop off your donations in the basket located in the Narthex.
We thank you for all your help!
