Julie & Jane, a play in Rockford
From LWV Rockford Area:  Artists' Ensemble Theater celebrates Women's History Month with Julie & Jane, written by local playwright, Margaret Raether, dramatizes the story of a 60-year friendship between Rockford native, Julia Lathrop, and social activist, Jane Addams. These two women, who first met at Rockford Female Seminary (now Rockford University) marched forth to shake the world.

Julie & Jane is adapted from Jane Addam's book, My Friend, Julia Lathrop. Brilliantly crafted by Margaret Rather, Julie & Jane evolved from its initial scripted reading into the World Premiere of a fully stage production. This play is recommended for ages 12 and up.

This play began with a proposal to Ms. Raether from members of the League of Women Voters Greater Rockford who wanted to commemorate LWVGR's 100th Anniversary. In 1922, just two years after the formation of the League of Women Voters of the United States, Julia Lathrop helped establish the local branch of the LWV.

The Play runs from March 7-24. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 pm, Saturdays at 4 and 7:30, and Sundays at 2 pm. Thursday tickets are $19. All other shows are $28.00 for adults and $10 for students. Buy tickets at WWW.artistsensemble.org or call 815-394-5004.
