Registration Now Open for the 2024 Idaho Association of School Administrators Blue Jeans Conference  

The Idaho Association of School Administrators (IASA) invites all Idaho administrators and educators to register for this year's Blue Jeans Conference, to be held March 5 - 6 at the Boise Centre. The 2024 conference will dive into the world of education with expert insights on behavior management, SPED law, FAPE, autism spectrum and more with a keynote address from nationally recognized special education expert Jan Tomsky. Though the conference is aimed at administrators and educators, it is open to any educational stakeholder interested in attending.

Training Opportunities for Nurses, Counselors, Social Workers and More 

Administrators and educators are encouraged to explore a variety of upcoming trainings focused on student mental health and and wellness. Each training will be held virtually and registration is now open. The March 6 and 12 trainings are aimed at school health personnel and the March 8 training is intended for for all district and school staff members.

March  6: Suicide Intervention Protocols Training - open to all district and school health personnel 
March 8: All Schools SPFI Gatekeeper Training - open to all district and school staff
March 12: Sudden Death Postvention Protocols Training - open to all district and school health personnel

Nominate a Teacher: Outstanding Humanities Educator Award
The Idaho Humanities Council is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Outstanding Humanities Educator Award. The award will be given to three teachers in April 2024: one teaching grades K - 5, one teaching grades 6 - 8 and one teaching grades 9 - 12. Each teacher will be awarded a cash prize of $1,500. Administrators, colleagues, parents and former students are invited to nominate an outstanding teacher in their community. Nominations are due on or before February 29th. All nominated teachers will be contacted directly by the IHC with an invitation to apply. Learn more about award criteria here or nominate a teacher at the link below:

Grant Writing Training for Educators and Administrators
Online, self-paced training courses for administrators and educators pursuing grant funding for their schools and classrooms are available now from the National Education Association Foundation.
The NEA Foundation's website offers a deep-dive into the world of grant management and writing asks participants to consider why they are pursuing a grant, instructs on how to efficiently research grant requirements and walks grant-writers through the process from grant composition and submission to grantee notification. Available resources include a writing tutorial, a guide for current grantees, information about fiscal agents and more.

Webinar: Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA)-sponsored National Rural Transit Assistance Program (National RTAP) will host a webinar on February 28 to highlight the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicaid Transportation Coverage Guide. This guide outlines the agency’s new comprehensive guidance for the provision of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT). It also provides items of note for transit agencies seeking to provide Medicaid NEM:

Ag Science Educator Opportunity: Science Through Agriculture from On the Farm STEM 

On The Farm STEM is an all expenses-paid professional development and immersive learning program for science educators. This experience will showcase food, agriculture and beef production as meaningful contexts for science teaching and learning that will inspire today’s students to take action and feel empowered to use food and agriculture to improve society.

Participants will discover agricultural phenomena that can be used for classroom learning experiences, engage with industry experts, see modeling of NGSS design principles and witness firsthand how agriculture and food contexts can increase the relevancy and authenticity of content in science classrooms.

What to expect: 

  • Hands-on experiential learning with experts in agriculture science and beef production during a 4-day, in-the-field experience in the Louisville, KY area July 16-19.
  • Accommodations during the event – hotel accommodations, transportation and meals included in the event
  • Travel Expense Reimbursement for up to $750 to travel to Kentucky (ex: rental car, taxi, flights, mileage, meals during travel)
  • Blended professional learning format, including asynchronous learning and three virtual webinars
  • Collaboration & community with a diverse cohort of 30 high school science educators from across the nation

Teacher of the Year Nominations Open Through March 18
Do you know of an instructor who regularly goes above any beyond for their students, school and community? Applications to nominate a teacher for the 2024 CapEd Credit Union Idaho Teacher of the Year are now open. Nominations are due to the Idaho Department of Education by March 18. 

The 2025 Idaho Teacher of the Year will receive a cash award of $10,000 courtesy of CapEd Credit Union and will travel across the state to share with other educators, legislators and policymakers about teaching, curriculum, best practice and more. They will also serve as Idaho’s nominee for National Teacher of the Year. Please visit the Teacher of the Year webpage at the link below to learn more or to access the online nomination form:

Building a Culture of STEM: Idaho EcosySTEM Convening
Join Idaho EcosySTEM on April 11-12 for the 4th annual EcosySTEM Convening at the Nampa Civic Center. This year's convening theme is "Building a Culture of STEM."

Parents with questions about school choice in Idaho can now access a dedicated guide from Bluum. The guide walks parents through a variety of essential topics when it comes to school choice in Idaho, including information on the different public, charter and private options. It also covers online and blended learning schools, alternative public schools and other learning opportunities like Khan Academy, Idaho Digital Learning Academy and more. The guide also gets parents and students started on their plans after high school with information on earning college credits in high school through Advanced Placement and Advanced Opportunities.

Watch: What's Changed for the 2024-2025 FAFSA Form 

This short video from the Department of Federal Student Aid walks parents and students through changes made to the 2024-2025 FAFSA Form. The 2024–25 FAFSA form is available for students attending college between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. When parents or students submit their completed FAFSA form, they will get an email confirming that Federal Student Aid has received the form with preliminary information related to their eligibility for federal student aid.
