BOOK RECOMMENDATION

Making sense of organizational change and innovation in health care: An everyday ethnography
BY Anne Reff Pedersen
New York: Routledge, 2020

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents an analysis of individual and shared narratives. It presents combining narratives, arguing that both structured and more provisory narratives are useful in studies of change and innovation processes because they both have the capacity to direct new sense and make sense of everyday organizing. The book demonstrates the sensemaking condition of a local organizational change processes in a hospital ward. It presents findings from the study of an emergency ward. The book aims to understand the values of health care professionals and their potential resistance toward change processes in a rehabilitation ward. It examines how innovative design thinking from the innovation literature mobilized participants in two local collaborative innovation projects. The book illustrates how two shared narratives can redirect the sensemaking of heath care professions and other external participants concerning everyday routines involving waiting time and medical consultations.
