Free Tuition Program for Employees Extended to 2025

The School of Nursing Tuition Grant supplements UR employee tuition benefits to provide 100 percent tuition coverage in select bachelor’s, master’s, and advanced certificate programs. More than 675 URMC nurses and health care professionals have enrolled and benefited from the grant since its inception in 2019. Read more.

Nurse Home Visits Have Lasting Impact on Disadvantaged Mothers and Daughters' Health, Research Shows

Nurse home visits to disadvantaged mothers can significantly reduce their rates of hypertension and their daughters’ likelihood of obesity, a new study in JAMA Network Open found. The study analyzes data from the Memphis New Mothers Study, a longitudinal study that began here in the 1990s and continues to track the impacts of nurse home visits across the lifespan for participating mothers and their children. Save the date! 🎓 We are delighted to welcome families and friends to Rochester to honor the Class of 2024 at the 174th Commencement Weekend, May 17-19. The School of Nursing's graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, May 17, at 5 p.m. in Kodak Hall, located at the Eastman School of Music campus.

Awards

  • Professor Margaret-Ann Carno, PhD, MBA, MJ, RN, PNP-AC/PC, CNE, ATSF, FAAN, co-authored the American Thoracic Society's new clinical practice guidelines on managing persistent, post-adenotonsillectomy obstructive sleep apnea among children. She was the sole nurse on a multidisciplinary panel of experts.
  • Assistant Professor Dillon Dzikowicz, PhD, RN, PCCN, is a 2024 recipient of the University of Rochester Clinical & Translational Science Institute's KL2 Career Development Award for the study "Social Networks and Inflammation as Potential Targets for Suicide Prevention in Young People at Clinical High-Risk for Psychosis."
  • Assistant Professor Lauren Ghazal, PhD, FNP-BC, has been named one of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society's 2024 Health Equity Scholars.
  • Assistant Professor Sukardi Suba, PhD, RN, has been named a 2024 UR Medicine Quality Institute Scholar. Meet this year's cohort.
  • Assistant Professor Chen Zhang, PhD, MPH, has been selected to participate in the National Institute on Drug Abuse's (NIDA) Diversity Scholars Network, a competitive program that enhances the funding success of early career investigators from diverse backgrounds.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

In honor of NEDA Week, the Western New York Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders is hosting a full week of events, including meet and greet and panel "Healing the Person" on Feb. 26 at the UR Nursing auditorium and a scale smashing event at iSmash on Feb. 28. All events are free and open to the community, with the goal of educating, highlighting resources, and sharing hopeful messages.
