Scouts SA Now Accepts Sports Vouchers!

What is the Sports Vouchers Program? It is an SA Government initiative that helps families cover the costs of their children's sports and recreation activities. All children living in South Australia, from Reception to Year 9, are eligible for a Sports Voucher each calendar year.

The Sports Voucher Program contributes $100 to the Branch Membership Fee (in the Reynella Scout Group the Branch Membership Fee is included in the Term Fee payment).

Scouts SA hopes that the Sports Voucher Program makes Scouting more accessible and affordable for everyone.  Apply today via the online portal!

When the use of your Sports Voucher is approved your will be notified by Scouts SA Head Office via email. The Scout Group will then split the discount throughout your remaining term fee invoices for the calendar year.

22nd February: Founders Day

The founder of Scouting, Lord Robert Baden-Powell (B-P) was born on 22nd February 1857 in England. He lived a busy and adventurous life, and as a boy spent much of his spare time in open-air pursuits, hunting in the woods, and joining his brothers in expeditions by land and in their boats. Thus he developed his powers of observation and resourcefulness and acquired many useful skills.

He won a scholarship which gave him entry into the British Army, where he was sent to India and served for many years. He tried out his ideas of training soldiers in “Scouting”, teaching them how to develop experience in stalking and fending for themselves and to be observant of all signs that would give them an advantage as soldiers. He set down his ideas in the book Aids to Scouting, which was used as a textbook for many years.

As a soldier, Baden-Powell rose to public prominence during the war against the Boers in Africa at the end of the 1800s. Most noteworthy was his leadership of the defending force in the siege of the South African town of Mafeking. Baden-Powell returned to England as a national hero in 1899 having successfully defended the town against the Boers.

Baden-Powell was encouraged to set down his views on how he would apply Scouting to the training of boys. He first conducted an experimental camp in 1907 on Brownsea Island off the Dorset coast of the UK. With some 20 boys from all walks of life and suitable adult leaders, Baden-Powell taught the boys what he meant by Scouting. They lived in tents, cooked their own food and learnt many valuable skills through games. From this first experimental camp the global Scout Movement was born!

Globally, Scouts commemorate the 22nd February as the birthday of our Founder.
Sun Smart Scouting

The Reynella Scout Group supports sun smart behaviours. We request that all member bring a broad brim hat along to Scouting activities. (This includes activities at the Hall as we often visit the local park.) Caps do not provide adequate sun protection and are discouraged.

We also encourage members to bring a drink bottle to weekly meetings.
Term One Fees

Term One Fee invoices have been issued to all registered members. Invoices are sent via email through our accounting system (ReckonOne). If you have not received your invoice please check your junk mail folder.

We believe in the value of Scouting for everyone. If you are experiencing financial hardship we encourage you to reach out. If you initiate discussions we can work together find options to support your family’s continued involvement in Scouting. The Scout Group supports extensions on payment terms and payment plans. Scouts SA also has financial support available.
Term Fee Consultation

The Reynella Scout Group Term Fee covers the ongoing facilitation of Scouting within the Scout Group. We believe the Reynella Scout Group offers value for money.

In 2023 the Reynella Scout Group Term Fee was $105. However, to keep up with our increasing expenses, our term fees must increase in 2024.

We will consult with families on this increase; with member families asked to vote on a preferred fee structure moving forward. A new Term Fee will be set (from Term Two onwards) as a result of this consultation.

OPTION ONE: Increased Term Fees
Term Fee: $115
Annual Fundraising Levy: $40

In this fee structure, families would be asked to assist at a fundraising activity annually or pay the Fundraising Levy.

OPTION TWO: Increased Fundraising / Group Support
Term Fee: $105
Term Assistance Levy: $40

In this fee structure, families would be asked to assist the Scout Group in some way each term or pay the assistance levy.
