Breaking Language Barriers in Data Science: Glosario Codefest Event
In data science and programming, breaking down language barriers is pivotal for creating an inclusive learning environment. We are excited to announce an event that aligns with this vision – the Glosario Codefest! This event, made possible by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, marks a step forward in advancing data science knowledge and accessibility for our diverse global community. Join us on Thursday, 29 February, 14:00 UTC (find your time; add to calendar), sign up on this Etherpad.

In the second part of our session, dive into hands-on practice as we guide you through incorporating alt text into The Carpentries Workbench.
6 March Skill-up Session: sandbox.bio for Carpentries lessons at 16:00 UTC (find your time; add to calendar) sandbox.bio is a platform featuring free command-line tutorials for bioinformatics. In this session, I’ll discuss how sandbox.bio works, and how it helps to address some challenges of learning how to work in the shell, namely that installing programs can be challenging, and that making mistakes is scary (think rm -f, or runaway cloud costs). To illustrate some of the benefits, I’ll present a demo of running a few Carpentries exercises from “The Unix Shell” within sandbox.bio. Finally, I would love to hear from the community whether this kind of tool could be beneficial for your training sessions. This session will be repeated 7 March at 01:00 UTC (find your time; add to calendar)
11 March New to The Carpentries community? Join members of the Core Team and community to learn about the organisation, ways to engage, and to have your questions answered. These sessions provide onboarding for new Instructors and are ideal for new Member contacts and anyone curious to learn more about The Carpentries community. This is also a great place to re-onboard if you haven’t been engaged with us for a while! This session will be repeated 15 March at 09:00 UTC (find your time; add to calendar), 19 March 15:00 UTC (find your time; add to calendar), and 27 March at 12:00 UTC (find your time; add to calendar) and 23:00 UTC (find your time; add to calendar). All upcoming Welcome Sessions are listed on the Welcome Sessions Etherpad.
