Do you run or are part of a Christian Youth Group? Are you a young Christian? You're invited on Pentecost Sunday to join with thousands of young people from every corner of the nation to come together, to unite in the Lord's Prayer in one mighty voice. As part of this session, they can join online with the rest of the nation from 17:15-17:35. During these 20 mins we will have contributions from the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of York, Rachel Gardener, and the team from The Way. Ending with praying The Prayer– The Lord’s prayer at 5:30 as youth from every corner of the nation come together to unite in prayer together.

Thank you for all you do to walk, welcome and grow your mission and ministry amongst children and young people.

Training for volunteers (CYP Basics)

The CYP team would love to deliver free CYP Basics training to your volunteer teams to support your ministry with Children, Young People and Families.  Our core course for those engaged or interested in work with children and young people doesn't assume experience and yet offers much for lively discussion, reflection and development of practice. It can be tailored to your church's needs and we can deliver the training at your church.

Why do it?
• It’s a whistle-stop tour across the basics of ministry with CYP.
•It works especially well with whole (or majority) volunteer teams from churches.
• It encourages teams to think together about their vision for ministry.

Do you work with children?

Join the 9 month Aurora Children's Ministry course, become a Commissioned Children's Worker and gain a qualification which is recognised throughout the Diocese of Southwark. 
  • Deepen your understanding of ministry to children in today’s settings. 
  • Identify what is not working so well in your church and make changes. 
To gain the qualification you also need to complete the Bishop’s Certificate in the second year.  There is also an Aurora Youth Ministry course in September 2025 (you could begin that qualification by taking the Bishop’s Certificate first).
 

To join the course you will:

  1. Go through a discernment process led by the Lay Ministry Team
  2.  Complete the 9 month Aurora Course, followed by the 9 month Southwark Diocese Bishop's Certificate.

Young Gamers & Gamblers Education Trust is running a  free fully funded, City & Guilds assured workshop open to Community and Faith Leaders and practitioners (including youth workers) who work with or have contact with young people from Ethnic Minority communities and also people from low income backgrounds. It will provide the skills, confidence and resources to deliver the programme direct to young people training.

Topics covered in the workshop:
  • Gaming and Gambling Harms
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • The Role of Religion and Culture
  • Marketing and Sponsorship
  • Spotting Signs of Harm
  • Signposting Help and Support
  On completion of our workshop, you will have access to YGAM's diverse communities’ resources as well as continued support from the YGAM Education Manager.

  Godly Play is a movement that encourages the spiritual nurture of children and adults in our churches. It involves storytelling and theological reflection for all ages. Children’s leaders and preachers alike are welcome to join the Revd Ronni Lamont, the facilitator of Godly Play courses, as she introduces Godly Play and helps us understand what a powerful and creative technique it can be.

Would you be interested in developing your skills and knowledge in planning and organising, co-ordinating projects, and gaining experience of a range of work with a local and national significance, whilst contributing to the aims and vision of the Diocese of Southwark, part of the Church of England.

This is an opportunity to work closely with the Bishop of Kingston in supporting his work with the clergy and people of the parishes in the Kingston area, in planning his diary and co-ordinating a range of events.

As Head of FLOURISH (Worshipping Communities in Schools/Colleges) you will lead the implementation of the ‘FLOURISH’ network of worshipping communities in schools/FE colleges across the country, working in partnership with Dioceses to ensure that children and young people in education settings are instinctively at the heart of their mission, vision and strategy.

As Project Manager (FLOURISH Worshipping Communities in Schools/FE Colleges), you will support the Head of FLOURISH in managing a major funded pilot project launching and embedding 40 locations for worshipping communities in schools/FE colleges across the country, including project management tracking, evaluation, stakeholder engagement and operational support to each location as required.

As Programme Lead – Developing Younger Leaders (Education) you will develop effective and accredited training programmes, networks and research in relation to developing young leaders for the FLOURISH network – who are equipped, resourced and commissioned to lead these communities alongside their adult leaders from schools/college/churches.

Children and Families Minister, St Thomas with St Stephen’s (Balham)  Mon 29th April 2024
 Salary:  £24,000-£29,000 per annum  with accommodation provided for a generously subsidised rent of £500 pm. If you do not require accommodation a higher salary will be provided
Hours: 37.5 hours a week. Minimum of 30 hours per week.
St Thomas with St Stephen’s is a lively Anglican church in a vibrant area of southwest London, serving Streatham Hill, Clapham Park and Balham.

The overall vision for Children and Families’ Ministry is

  • To be warmly welcoming and supportive of children and families.

  • For children and families of all ages, life stages and backgrounds to meet with God, grow in a living and vibrant faith and share their faith with those in the community around them.

The purpose of the role is to lead and resource our work amongst children aged 0-10 and their families – within the church and the community, including, where possible, the local schools.
