Calling All Teachers: Join the Green Classroom Challenge!

It’s not too late to join the Green Classroom Challenge! All TK-12 teachers in Santa Cruz County are invited to join the challenge by April 6th to be recognized as one of the many classrooms making a difference in our community.

This program encourages students to work together to “green” their classroom by choosing to make a commitment to specific sustainable behaviors. A list of potential actions is provided for teachers and students to review and choose from.

Over 1,300 students are already participating, committed to 6,500 new sustainable actions across the County! Their teachers are noticing the difference. Stu Branoff, a 5th grade teacher at Bay View Elementary, recently shared how the challenge has brought together 11 classrooms across the school to promote a more sustainable future:

“When you walk around Bay View, you can see the Green Classroom Challenge Certificates hanging in the classroom windows and walls, proudly displaying that class's commitments to a greener and more sustainable future."

Resources are available to help tailor the program to the needs of your classroom across all grade levels. A summary of the impacts will be provided to to participants, along with tools to help you share and celebrate with your students and community. In addition, all participants and interested community members are invited to a celebration of all our county Green Classrooms on April 20th at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center!
