Thanks Living:
Joyfully Transforming Lives

Our Mission Statement:
"To be a community that shares the joy of God's Love"

St. Patrick's News Briefly

A. Just Happened
B. Happening Now
C. About to Happen

A. Just Happened:
 1. Alert! Bishop Megan Traquair has announced that she can be with us on Palm Sunday - See below under "About to Happen".
 2. The memorial service for Bruce Marts took place last Saturday. Thanks to Eleanor Albon for stepping up to play the organ in Doug's absence.

 3. Ron Keith, Brian Borgfeldt and Rich Randolph and others did some power washing, minor repairs, (they called a plumber for the complicated stuff) some landscaping and some mowing. Kudos!
 4. Another Alert! Andrea Rodriguez, our Administrative Assistant, whom we found through Certified Employment of Santa Rosa has found another position, a full time position which fits her needs, and she will be leaving next week. Certified Employment will have a replacement immediately, but there will inevitably be another transition time. Your prayers are appreciated.

B. Happening Now:
 1. Our vestry is attending a zoom Leadership Conference this Saturday, March 16th.
 2. Check the March 15th edition of the Kenwood Press for the colorful ad about St. Patrick's Holy Week Services.

C. About to Happen:
 1. In addition to our regular 10am Eucharist on Sunday, March 17th, we will also have the interment of Ashes in The Memorial Garden for Carol Gwatkin at 1pm, followed by her Memorial Service in the Church at 2pm. Fr. Hugh Stevenson and Fr. Ed will officiate.
 2. Sunday is also St. Patrick's Day. Wear something green and brush up on your Irish accent. If you see any snakes, chase them away.
 3. The Rev. Karen King is hosting classes about the church seasons and the Sunday lectionaries. Here are the dates and zoom link for her courses:
March 19

  4. The vestry will meet on Wednesday, March 20th.
  5. Holy Week! First, Palm Sunday with Bishop Megan as celebrant and preacher. The service will begin with the Liturgy of the Palms, weather permitting. Here is a review of the details of The Holy Week Services:
Palm Sundays – 10am – remembrance of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey with his followers waving palm branches, a sort of protest symbol against Ceasar. We will observe that action with a procession with palm branches at the beginning of the service. Then we will have a dramatic reading of the passion according to Mark, with individual readers reading the speeches of the people involved in the passion – Jesus, Pilate, etc.

Maundy Thursday – 8pm – A celebration of the Eucharist remembering in particular the Last Supper, including the washing of feet. Maundy is a form of the Latin Mandatum, that is, mandate or command. The mandate we celebrate is the command of Jesus “Love one another as I have loved you”. We strip the altar at the end to symbolize the emptiness of the death of Jesus. There are plans to have another agape supper after the Maundy Thursday service. More details to come.
Good Friday – Noon and 5pm – The Good Friday Liturgy remembers again the passion, on this day from The Gospel of John. We follow that dramatic reading with the Solemn Collects, veneration of the Cross and communion from the Reserved Sacrament, which was consecrated at the Maundy Thursday service.
The Holy Saturday celebration is the Great Vigil which will be presented at the Church of the Incarnation at 8pm. All are invited: This service includes baptisms when requested and many readings tracing the history of salvation.
Easter Sunday – 10am – The celebration of the Resurrection is the high focal observance of Christianity. Christ’s being raised from the dead confirms God’s promise of eternal love, confronting and defeating death, and promising that each of us will also be raised from the dead to dwell with God in eternity. We will celebrate that Eucharist with new understanding of the gift of our salvation. An old tradition, an Easter egg hunt, is being planned for Easter Sunday after the service, and there will be a sumptuous coffee hour. Easter Season lasts until Pentecost Sunday May 19th.

Food Bank Distribution!
Greetings Friends!
Food distribution every 2nd & 4th Mondays.

Monday, March 11, 2024, 60 households/219 individuals received food in St Patrick's parking lot! Thank you to Pam/Larry, Chuck, Erin, Ned, Polly, driver Tomi and rep Arturo.  All went well in spite of the cooler temps and wind!  Of interest, one person asked to fill some containers with drinking water because the water where he lives can't be consumed!  This is a new dimension to our outreach!

Praise the Lord - the internet worked well tonight!  Sign-in could be completed quickly, avoiding a long line!

Scheduled for March 25 are Joel/Anna, Beth and Ned (who will bring his drill for our whirligigs.)  That's a full compliment!

This ministry just "feels so good!"  I am blessed to be a part of it!

Blessing Bags

There are lists of contents on a table in the narthex.

Here’s what goes in the Blessing Bags:
1 pop top can of pasta with meat
1 juice box
1 granola-type bar
1 package of crackers with cheese or peanut butter
A napkin and sturdy plastic fork
Place everything in a quart-sized plastic bag.  The stretchable Glad bags work very well.  If you like, you can include a short hopeful message.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Diocese of Northern California,

Greetings on this Fifth Sunday in Lent. We are one week away from Palm Sunday, then onto Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

Looking ahead to the Season of Eastertide, I invite you to join in our upcoming Fearless Faith Revival. On Saturday, April 27, we will gather at the beautiful campus of St. John's Church in Roseville for an afternoon and evening of learning, sharing, fellowship, and worship.

My friends, as a people of faith, we are in need of revival. In a time of wars, political tensions, economic struggles, and destructive weather, we have been tested and tried. Jesus himself took time from the demands of his ministry to connect with his Father and recharge his spirits. This is our time to gather together, to worship, break bread, to pray, and to strengthen the bonds which make us a people of God.

The highlight of our Revival will be the Worship Service – featuring music, prayers, and preaching by our special guest, Bishop Daniel Gutiérrez of the Diocese of Pennsylvania. This energetic, spirit-filled event will end with a call to prayer and service. You will not want to miss this.

The Fearless Faith Revival will bring friends and colleagues from around the Diocese, to hear from beloved speakers working in The Episcopal Church, and to recharge our batteries. It will bring us closer to what God calls us to do in the church. We will be planting love, harvesting hope, and walking away with a Fearless Faith, ready to share the love and passion for our Lord Jesus Christ with our communities.

In addition, we are hosting workshops taught by leaders from around the country on creation care, evangelism, racial reconciliation, community involvement, and meeting the needs of different generations of faith seekers.
The Revival Festival will feature ministry partners, exhibitors, vendors, and popular local food trucks. We will have prayer stations, contemplative spaces, and an outdoor labyrinth where you can walk prayerfully. And there will be a special area for kid-friendly activities. All activities at the Revival will be free.

As you know, our Diocese gathers in person each fall for our annual convention. An important part of convention is the opportunity to join in lunch, or occasionally, a special dinner for delegates and clergy. This year, however, our convention will be held entirely online. As a result, the Fearless Faith Revival will be the only day we will gather in person as a diocese.

My friends, hosting this revival is a huge undertaking of dedicated staff and volunteers from the entire diocese. It requires a significant investment of time and money. While much of the funds have been allocated by the Board of Trustees, there is still a need to defray the costs. One way that we hope to defray these expenses is a special dinner on the eve of the Revival.

On Friday, April 26, we will host a "Fearless Feast" fundraising dinner at Trinity Cathedral, featuring locally sourced foods and beverages. This event will provide a unique opportunity to meet and mingle with leaders from the across the country. I realize the cost to attend may be a burden for many, but all may gather to eat together at the Revival Festival the next day. If you cannot join us for the Fearless Feast, please consider making a gift to help underwrite this milestone event.

I believe that God has brought us as a diocese to this moment and that God is now calling us to an experience of His Renewal as a community. I urge you to send as many congregants as you can to join with me in responding to God’s action among us. We will find our thinking deepened in the workshops, our fellowship revived, and spirits warmed and encouraged. I am convinced that it is only from that place of praise and presence that we can begin to move outward to a whole community engagement to spread the Good News.
In joyous anticipation,

Bishop Megan

Revival Prayer
Gracious God, you know our hearts for all our neighbors: help us and guide our path as we seek to live lives of fearless faith, loving service and confident hope. We give you thanks and praise for all the ways you are present and moving in out community. May this time of revival bring both Spirit filled personal-renewal and social transformation marked by justice and healing.  For these and all your blessings, we give you thanks and praise through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.
