Closing a Gap in Cancer Genetics: UR Nursing Researcher Improving Access to Testing, Counseling

Less than half of people with cancer who are eligible for cancer genetic testing actually get tested. Assistant Professor Meghan Underhill-Blazey, PhD, APRN, FAAN, a nurse practitioner at Wilmot Cancer Institute, is part of a national team of scientists who are creating a digital program to remove barriers to genetic testing and counseling among rural communities and non-English speakers. Beyond Biometrics: Nurse Shares the Impact of UR Medicine Employee Wellness

Cheryl Ellenwood had always gotten good results from her biometric screenings. So when her numbers rose to concerning levels despite what she considered to be a decent diet and exercise regimen, she turned to UR Medicine Employee Wellness. The nurse-led program, housed at the School of Nursing, provides services to more than 63,000 employees in 83 organizations in Western New York. Read more in NURSING Magazine.

Class of 2024: Victoria Thomas, Former Dental Hygienist, Charts New Path in Leadership Master's Program

After a 20-year career as a dental hygienist and earning a bachelor’s in allied health, Vicky Thomas, RDH, BS, is advancing her career through the Leadership in Health Care Systems program and looks forward to walking at graduation in less than two months. Currently a research coordinator at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, she utilized the School of Nursing Tuition Grant to take this exciting next step in her career. Read her story.

Experiential Learning Summit 2024

Join us on June 6-7 as the School of Nursing hosts Experiential Learning at the University of Rochester: A Journey of Discovery in Nursing Education. This two-day summit will offer opportunities to learn, network, and explore with leading nurse educators in mobile learning, educational technology, simulation, active learning, and competency-based education. The call for abstracts is now open. Submissions are due by March 25.
