Mobile Phones in School and Sixth Form
|
|
You will have heard about the mobile phone guidance that was issued in February.
Note that it is non statutory guidance but many schools will have a policy of no phones pre-16 and some limited use in the sixth form.
There is specific reference to sixth form in the guidance as it is different to pre-sixth form.
'Schools should consider whether pupils in the sixth form should be permitted access to their mobile phone at certain and limited times and locations, reflecting this period of education as one of increased independence and responsibility, without compromising the school’s policy on the use of mobile phones for other pupils.
This should include prohibiting the use of mobile phones by sixth-form pupils in front of younger pupils, for example limiting use to a sixth-form common room. Sixth-form pupils should remain subject to the school’s behaviour policy and misuse of their phone should have the potential to lead to sanctions.'

UCAS References 2025 entry
Update for 2025 entry
|
|
We are hearing from posts in the Sixth Form Leaders site about the February UCAS Teachers and Advisers Conference from those who attended that there are no changes due to the new UCAS reference format going into next year ie the references you'll start preparing for in the Summer term and then in the Autumn term will follow the same format. No change of structure or character count. Universities generally found Section 2 helpful. Many schools have not drastically changed what they include overall but separated into the three sections. Universities are appreciative of the work teachers put in to manage the change and write to the new format.
Sam Sykes, Customer Success Manager, UCAS will be delivering an update to delegates about all things UCAS at our online conference on 21 June 2024.
