B. Happening Now:
 1. The memorial service for Bruce Marts takes place this Saturday, March 9th at 2pm
 2. Ramadan begins Sunday, March 10th at sunset. Daylight Savings time begins Sunday at 2am. Spring forward!
 3. The 4th Sunday, of Lent, this Sunday, is Rose Sunday, also known as Laetare Sunday, from the Latin laetare, an imperative, "Rejoice!" It is a respite from the Lenten rigors. It is like Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of advent Gaudete also means rejoice. If St. Patrick's had rose colored vestments we would wear them, and rejoice!

C. About to Happen:
 1. The vestry will be attending a zoom Leadership Conference on Saturday, March 16th. The subjects are pastoral and spiritual leadership, human resources, property management and financial matters. Thank you, vestry.
 2. St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, March 17th we will celebrate with extra goodies at the coffee hour, and we will also host the memorial service and commital in the Memorial Garden for Carol Gwatkin. Interment at 1pm, memorial service at 2pm followed by a reception in Stevenson Hall. And Fr. Hugh Stevenson will be here for the Celebration of Life.
 3. Finally, here is the outline for our Holy Week Services:
Palm Sundays – 10am – remembrance of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey with his followers waving palm branches, a sort of protest symbol against Ceasar. We will observe that action with a procession with palm branches at the beginning of the service. Then we will have a dramatic reading of the passion according to Mark, with individual readers reading the speeches of the people involved in the passion – Jesus, Pilate, etc.

Maundy Thursday – 8pm – A celebration of the Eucharist remembering in particular the Last Supper, including the washing of feet. Maundy is a form of the Latin Mandatum, that is, mandate or command. The mandate we celebrate is the command of Jesus “Love one another as I have loved you”. We strip the altar at the end to symbolize the emptiness of the death of Jesus. There are plans to have another agape supper after the Maundy Thursday service. More details to come.
Good Friday – Noon and 5pm – The Good Friday Liturgy remembers again the passion, on this day from The Gospel of John. We follow that dramatic reading with the Solemn Collects, veneration of the Cross and communion from the Reserved Sacrament, which was consecrated at the Maundy Thursday service.
The Holy Saturday celebration is the Great Vigil which will be presented at the Church of the Incarnation at 8pm. All are invited: This service includes baptisms when requested and many readings tracing the history of salvation.
Easter Sunday – 10am – The celebration of the Resurrection is the high focal observance of Christianity. Christ’s being raised from the dead confirms God’s promise of eternal love, confronting and defeating death, and promising that each of us will also be raised from the dead to dwell with God in eternity. We will celebrate that Eucharist with new understanding of the gift of our salvation. An old tradition, an Easter egg hunt, is being planned for Easter Sunday after the service, and there will be a sumptuous coffee hour. Easter Season lasts until Pentecost Sunday May 19th.

NOMADIC SHELTER REPORT, MARCH 2024

Our March Shelter dinner and night was March 2.  We had 13 guests and 14 volunteers: Quite a ratio.  Two of the expected guests dropped out and two others disqualified themselves by their choice of drinking alcohol that day.  Obviously, there was plenty of food for all!
There were two staff members for the earlier part of the night and at 11:30 two more arrived so we prepared food for 31 people in all.
The total cost was under $90.  The menu was chicken breast, ham, roasted potatoes, green beans, and Ron Keith’s famous ambrosia.  Bernadette Gibb brought appetizer sausages, which were very popular.
Karen Borgfeldt again offered warm towels after dinner.  Guests could select books to keep from some we brought from the Little Library.  There were a few games on loan to play too.
Here are the volunteers: Brian and Karen Borgfeldt, Eleanor Albon, Marti Hoeft, Charlie Buff, Beth Lewis, Merle Holtzen, Ron Keith, Bernadette Gibb, and Rich and Betsy Randolph.  Sallie and Chuck wood prepared a casserole with potatoes which guests would enjoy at the Mission center downtown and a small ham which will be used at the next shelter.  Thanks to them too!
Thanks to everyone at St. Patrick’s for your support of this Outreach ministry.  Betsy Randolph

BBC - SCHOOLS

Becoming A Beloved Community - Schools

BUILDING LIBRARY COLLECTIONS TO INCLUDE RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING OF CULTURES AND DIVERSITY WHILE ENHANCING COMPASSION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

Join this special opportunity to provide books for the libraries at El Verano School and Kenwood School! Stories from diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds as well as biographies of ordinary citizens doing extraordinary work to make a difference in our American society. Titles such as “All are Welcome Here”, “Ordinary People Change the World”, “I am....Muhammad Ali, ...Marie Curie”, “Chocolate Milk, Por Favor: Celebrating Diversity with Empathy” and many more will update the collections in both schools.

Here is how you can participate: Each donation of $15 buys one book; $30 provides 2 books and so on with a discount of 7 books for $100. Each donor will receive a receipt and the titles of the books purchased. Our goal is to provide at least 50 books by March 1 so that the schools will celebrate “Read Across America” on March 4 with many new books to read!

Any amount is greatly appreciated! Please send a check, noting in the memo, “BBC-Schools Books” and the number of books to be funded, to St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 247, Kenwood, California 95452. St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church is a 501(C3) entity.

Thank you so very much!

Blessing Bags

There are lists of contents on a table in the narthex.

Here’s what goes in the Blessing Bags:
1 pop top can of pasta with meat
1 juice box
1 granola-type bar
1 package of crackers with cheese or peanut butter
A napkin and sturdy plastic fork
Place everything in a quart-sized plastic bag.  The stretchable Glad bags work very well.  If you like, you can include a short hopeful message.

Blessing Bag Report, February 2024

Members of St Patrick’s again were generous in their donations of 60 Blessing Bags to the Redwood Gospel Mission.  That number was close to the record 67 set in December 2023. Thank you to all of you who donated in February and kept some people fed who otherwise would have gone hungry.   The generosity in our congregation is truly remarkable and inspiring.
The deadline for the next opportunity to donate Blessing Bags is March 10.  You are welcome to leave them in the basket in the Narthex or drop them off at our home, 8399 Oakmont Dr, Santa Rosa, CA 95409. If you have questions about the Blessing Bags, please contact me by email rjurny@gmail.com or phone/text (408)981-2024.

Food Donations Needed
F.I.S.H. of Santa Rosa

IMPORTANT CHANGE

F.I.S.H’s current twice-a-month family distribution system is neither financially nor physically sustainable. Due to a dramatic increase in demand, our volunteers are overwhelmed, and we are dealing with an extreme decrease in donations. For these reasons, F.I.S.H. has reverted to a once-a-month policy as of January 01, 2024. This means that our clients will be able to receive 2 bags of groceries, ONCE a month.

To volunteer and donate, please go to our WEBSITE

About us:
ln 2023 F.I.S.H. served an average of 4,976 people per month, and historically approximately 35% of those helped are children. The number of people asking for assistance from FISH has increased dramatically since 2022. F.I.S.H is currently open five days per week to offer food to people in need - including seniors, homeless, unemployed, low-income, disabled, and  more...Your donations feed many.

Spread the LOVE!

Our friends at F.I.S.H. of Santa Rosa would like our help with peanut butter donations!  If you would like to bring in jars of peanut butter to help fulfill their needs to keep serving those in need. You can also bring canned soup and other food non-perishable items. Peanut butter is their greatest need at this time. You are welcome to bring other canned food and baby diapers!
Drop off your donations in the basket located in the Narthex.
We thank you for all your help!
