Greetings friends
Another moving week – International Women’s Day, the change of time – an archaic practice people wish would go away. And at the breakneck speed of events we have coming up, like Pi Day and the Ides of March – immortalized by the great Julius Caesar, St. Patty’s Day coming when we battle the snakes of our lives, and then Purim and the Spring Equinox – the traditional first of the year and annually celebrated in the Persian world as new year’s, also known as no ruz.

It makes sense that the year begins with the advent of spring when renewal of life is at its apex, and the world is in perfect balance as we get ready to celebrate the holiday of freedom.

We are now entering the season of light, and we will be doing the change-of-season ritual for the spring. It is about changing, about transformation—and friends, if you are interested in transformation, no element is more important than developing a love of truth. Not my truth, not your truth—but the real truth—the truth encompasses both our fearful reactions and the greater resources of our soul. Seek the truth in everything you do.

And do not forget - we are given more than enough energy to transform ourselves every day. But we waste 98 percent of it on tensions and on emotional reactions unrelated to what is actually occurring.

Man has observed and celebrated the turning points of the solar seasons for thousands of years. Our ancient brethren the world over carved on stone markers a circle with two lines cutting the circle in four to mark the solstices and equinoxes. We still remember them as the first days of spring, summer, winter, and fall. We celebrate these solar “power” days with blessings for the changing seasons and kavanot (the prayerful intentions) for crossing from one time to another. An equinox is when everything is in balance, everything is equal – there are only two points in the year when the world is in complete balance – and the first is ten days away. Would that we could actually be in balance, too. It is there as an example of what we can aspire to be.

You may want to make the change in seasons a part of your ongoing spiritual practice, and you can do so as easily as reciting a blessing over a scent related to the season — for example, flowers for spring, fruit for summer, leaves for fall, and pine boughs for winter.

This week we read the second last and basically end the book of names and see Moses direct the artisans who will be entrusted with the task of implementation of the great pieces used in religious practice. These are the items that transport us through time and space and are indelibly etched in our collective DNA.

We begin the process of moving from inspiration and idea to formulation – a process we go through in all of our breakthroughs. We see there is a need to blend art and science, intellect and emotion, idea and vision to create anything of value in our lives.

Enjoy this week’s reading and keep practicing forgiveness, kindness, and acceptance, and use this time to continue to forgive those you need to forgive, and ask forgiveness from those you need to seek forgiveness from. Give thanks and celebrate your freedom and joy; do not succumb to fear, and please feel free to share this audio and video with anyone you think might enjoy it. And, of course, enjoy our past audio and video episodes, which are available on our YouTube channel. This episode will be posted on our channel - click here to watch the Rabbi David Gellman Show in the 2024 cycle.
