Experience eclipse on campus

On April 8 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., join UTM alumni relations for a rare chance to witness a near total solar eclipse on campus. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or a folding chair and relax on the field outside of the Davis Building while assistant professor Marta Bryan and students of astronomy and biology describe the importance of the eclipse, discuss its effects and answer your questions. 

  • 1:30 p.m.: Gather outside the Davis Building and pick up your viewing glasses
  • 2-4:30 p.m.: Eclipse, public lectures, Q&A
  • 3:20 p.m.: Mid-point of eclipse

Each guest will receive a pair of solar eclipse glasses to allow them to safely view the eclipse. Hot cocoa will be available, please bring your reusable mugs. Supplies are limited to registered guests only. Register now Learn more

The Health and Counselling Centre's first annual emBODY Wellness Expo is coming March 22 to Gym A/B from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn how taking care of the systems of the body can positively impact well-being and success.

Registration now open for UTM camps
UTM staff, faculty and librarians are invited to register children ages 4-16 in Camp UTM summer programs. Themes include forensics, dance, leadership, soccer, climate and more. The St. George and Scarborough campuses will also be offering camps. Learn more

Time to nominate great researchers

Nominations are now open for the Desmond Morton Research Excellence Award and UTM Annual Research Prizes:

  • The Desmond Morton Research Excellence Award recognizes outstanding career achievement in research and scholarly activity by faculty members of UTM. The award recipient will receive $5,000 towards research activity/professional development. Learn more
  • The UTM Annual Research Prize recognizes outstanding early career faculty members at UTM: one each from the Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences. The award recipient will receive $2,000 for research activity/professional development. Learn more

UTM Staff Awards nominations close Friday, March 15.
The criteria for the Principal’s Service Award for Excellence and the Principal’s Staff Awards, as well as how to submit a nomination can be found on the Staff Awards & Recognition website. To mark its fifth annual Sustainability Week, UTM Sustainability Office is hosting a variety of events, including a Climate Positive Plan workshop on March 18 from noon to 2 p.m. in the UTM Room. Learn more 

Crane affects traffic patterns by library
Vehicles will not be permitted in the lay-by lane north of the Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre (HMALC) building from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 19 to accomodate a crane on the north side of the building as part of urgent repairs to the HVAC unit. There are alternative Kiss ‘n Ride drop-off areas next to Deerfield Hall and W.G. Davis Building.
The sidewalk northeast of the library will not be accessible, and pedestrian traffic between the library and Parking Lots 8 and 9 will be diverted to the HMALC-CCT link. The main entrance of the library will remain accessible

Duo changes begin next week
Starting March 21, Duo, the mobile app for multi-factor authentication, is getting a new design. There is no action required from users.
Be on alert for phishing emails that ask you to act to maintain access to your account, such as clicking a link, scanning a QR code or providing your MFA bypass codes. Report any suspicious emails to report.phishing@utoronto.caLearn more  
Pitch a presentation for IT@UofT 2024 conference
The IT@UofT 2024 conference is looking for information technology presentations that relate to the theme, Better Together, and align with the streams of this year’s conference:
  • Artificial intelligence 
  • Collaboration and teamwork 
  • Information security 
The conference will take place on the St. George campus May 8 and 9, and is open to all U of T faculty and staff, including IT leaders, technical specialists, decision-makers, communications professionals and administrators. Registration is limited to 600 attendees.   
To submit a presentation proposal to the IT@UofT 2024 programming committee, complete the online submission form by 5 p.m. on March 21.
Apply now for Child Care Benefit 
The deadline to submit a 2023 Child Care Benefit Application is 5 p.m., March 19. The application is available online through Employee Self-Service (ESS) for eligible faculty, librarians and staff. No applications will be received after this date. Learn more
