Happy Women’s History Month! The work we do at the Indigenous Justice Circle (IJC) is firmly rooted in Native women’s wisdom. Our mission includes re-centering and re-strengthening Indigenous women’s roles, keeping in mind how legacies of structural racism have eroded matrilineal traditions and leadership. This month, we want to celebrate and honor the work of women everywhere and remember the work that is yet to be done in uplifting all of us.

Look out for exciting news on our plans for 2024! We invite you to check out our newly updated website which highlights our priorities: health equity, gender transformative justice, and combatting the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit (MMIWG2S) Crisis.

IJC Updates

We are proud to announce the grantees from our most recent Native Girl Society Grants! We received excellent applications and we are excited to see our network grow. Our 2024 recipients are: the White Buffalo Calf Women's Society, 100 Horses Women’s Society, Native American Community Services (NACS) of Erie and Niagara Counties, and the Bluebird Cultural Initiative.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors and a Pads Across America grant from The Pad Project, we are able to financially support our partners in addition to hosting trainings and exchanges to help them run Native Girl Societies in their communities. We will share more about our partners on social media in the next couple of weeks!

Upcoming Events

Save the date! We will be co-hosting an event on the sidelines of the 23rd United Nation’s Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) with the Population Council. This year the UNPFII’s theme is “Enhancing Indigenous Peoples’ Right to Self-determination in the Context of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: Emphasizing the Voices of Indigenous Youth.” We are excited to share the work that we do with our Indigenous Young Leaders and partners. The event will take place Monday, April 15 at 1:30 pm at 1 Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in New York City. We will also livestream the event. The registration for this event will come out soon.
