MARCH 2024

It was a PURRfectly wonderful 2023!

AND there were puppies galore!

2023 was a busy year for our hard-working foster team.  With their tireless efforts, we fostered and transported 163 animals and conducted 24 transports with our Road Trip Home partners.  We have ROCK STARS as volunteers!  Want to join our team?  Contact us at info@habershamhumane.org and we’ll give you all the ‘deets’!

IN ADDITION to our foster/transport endeavors, our volunteers were hard at work with  community projects:

~  We volunteered at the Clarkesville Library, leading Wednesday “Storytime” activities with local pre-schoolers.  What a great opportunity it was to educate and have fun at the same time.  We read some awesome books like “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” and “Harry, the Dirty Dog”, along with teaching some adorable art projects.

HHS has already signed up to host some Storytime activities next summer!

~  Our friends at El Jinete Mexican Restaurant in Clarkesville kindly offered HHS bulletin board space at their entrance which we try to update seasonally with pics of our foster pups & kits, opportunities for volunteer duties, fundraising efforts and other ways in which our community supporters can help out.  CHECK IT OUT next time you visit EJ for a delish meal!

~  We assisted our awesome Habersham Animal Shelter friends in a couple of their 2023 promotions:  auction baskets for ‘Santa Claus for the Paws’ in October and gift bags for their senior living give-away in December.  We love supporting our shelter and urge you to visit them if you are considering adopting.  Their needs are great.

~  We sponsored two year-end transports for the shelter - helping to clear out some of the dogs and kitties who have been around for a while.  We were thrilled to provide them with a “Merry Christmas” in loving new homes!

~  Our 2nd Annual holiday fundraiser - “A Silent Night for the Animals” - involved an outreach to as many of our Habersham supporters as possible.

THANK YOU to those who donated.  Our work could not exist without your kind and generous involvement.

We have set our 2024 fundraising goal at $40,000

and the effort…starts…NOW!

Please considering supporting us with a monthly donation.  We are a fully-volunteer 501-c-3 organization and every dollar we raise goes directly toward our mission to help and advocate for needy animals in Habersham County.

BIG WELCOME to the newest member of our Habersham Humane Society Board of Directors … Sandy Foster.  Sandy joins us as coordinator of our Foster/Transport Program - the heart & soul of HHS.  She brings years of experience in fostering as a former volunteer for both HHS and our local shelter.  She loves animals - with all their varying personalities, quirks, nuances and idiosyncracies - and displays just the patience and discipline it requires to manage our F/T seemlessly.  We are so proud to have her!

HAPPY TAILS!

Here’s Sonny…

Our handsome little Sonny hit the Jackpot in Maine!  See this update:

“Hi there!  My name is Katherine and I live in Maine.  I was just going through the records for our sweet bug named Sonny.  My husband and I adopted him in August and he instantly fit right in.  We have another senior chihuahua we adopted last year (also from GA), her name is Marci they became buddies quickly.”

“Sonny has 2 kitty siblings now — Rocky and Lily. They are fascinated with this tiny boy! We are a complete family now (our kids are all grown up).  I bring Sonny to work every Friday, as my office now calls it’ Sonny Snuggle Day’. He loves everyone there, as I am sure you already know how sweet he is. I am so sad to read he was a stray and can't imagine somebody not missing this sweet boy. He lives a comfy life now, and we make sure everyday is Sonny Day. I can't tell you how thankful we are to have him; our hearts burst with love for him.  Here’s a recent photo and I would be happy to send more along periodically so you can see how he is living his best life.  He will be well-loved the rest of his days, I promise.”

These are the stories that warm our hearts and make our mission worth all the hours that our faithful volunteers offer.  Would you like to join our foster efforts?  Contact us - info@habershamhumane.org.
