CARL's Dog Of The Month
 
    

 
Hi, I'm Jasper, a very sweet 6 year old Pit Bull X, who was found abandoned in a field. I wasn't in very good shape and needed medical care, probably why I got dumped. Of course no one came to claim me, so I'm now waiting for my forever home.

It's unknown how I'd do with cats or children, but I do need a home with no other dogs.

I've been seen by a veterinarian and through CARL's care I've been getting better. CARL raised the funds needed for my TECA-BO surgeries which were done on 10/2/23 and 12/4/23. Paws crossed for a full and speedy recovery. Thank you to everyone who donated.

We were lucky to hold the event before the rain hit. El Nino and La Nina. Remember
them? They were not kidding when they promised torrential rains after the drought. We
were back in action on that Saturday at Sailor & Friends Pet Supply at 2070 E. Main
Street in Ventura. Toni was our fearless leader once again joined by volunteers Karen,
Brenda, Christina, Kai, Jose and Kathy. Our fur babies were Bolt with his foster mom
Diana, Boie with his foster mom Tarin, Rufus, Leche, and Wisp, who is being fostered by
Sheila, the lovely volunteer who sends out the monthly news report for CARL, Nellie
who is being fostered by Christina, Anubis and Jasper. I thought Bolt gave new meaning
to the words “drive by” because a couple saw him while driving by. They said they were
interested in adopting him, but I guess they changed their minds because he is still
available. Boei did get adopted though, yeah! Well, being that it is leap year and the
rains are here in full force, we leapt over March’s event due to inclement weather. We
will return next month, April 6, 2024 at Sailor and Friends once again from 11:30 to 3:30.
Maybe you will meet your furry soulmate this spring? We hope to see you there.

Winchester,   Maple,     Mustard,     Santi
  
We had Winchester, Maple, Mustard and making his first appearance on the "Green Mile" was Santi. Santi proved to be a bit of a handful at first. I was his human chew toy. Lucky for me Breanne, who is a trainer working with some of our dogs, brought Winchester and worked with Santi. Within 20 minutes he had calmed down and was following her leads. He was great after that and even took a nap. Shelbie brought Mustard, who enjoyed being next to Winchester. Jill had Maple who is so well behaved.

After Jill & I loaded up the dogs one of the employees came out and handed me an envelope. I opened it and there was a check for $5,000 from Skunkmasters! Needless to say we unloaded Santi & Maple and went inside for a photo op. Hope to have photo for next newsletter.

Due to the rain our March 2nd event was rescheduled for March 10th.  Since 4/20 is "Weed Day" that will be our next event. Thank you to Shelbie, Breanne and Jill for all of your help.

The dogs were Mando, Farrah, Paloma, Merle, Herny, Lil Moe & Chunk. The volunteers were Sharon, Grace, Mary, Tracy, Yvonne and Kai!  Also lil Moe's foster and Chunk's owner were there to help. Mando had a gentleman interested in him! Merle had some ladies interested and they have been in contact with Terry about him!

With spring on the horizon, March’s dog holidays help to keep our dogs safe as they get out in the world with National Animal Poison Prevention Week–and look ahead to summer with Professional Pet Sitters Week.

  • March 3-9: Professional Pet Sitters Week. Entrusting your pets and your home during your absence often means hiring a professional; this awareness week honors the pros who provide professional pet sitting.

  • March 17-23: National Animal Poison Prevention Week: Held the third week of March to coincide with National Poison Prevention Week.

Staff are needed to run these sites.
Plus dog transport is required.
Volunteer orientations are now being conducted online. After completely filing out the CARL volunteer application VOLUNTEER APPLICATION. You will be contacted by email to attend an online orientation, presented by a CARL volunteer via Zoom.
