Hybrid Program starts at 7 p.m.
Come and learn how this crazy idea of secondhand yarn all got started, you might even find out exactly what is “secondhand yarn.” Zeb Walter started Disco Fibers in April of 2023 to fill a need within the fiber arts community. Many secondhand stores fill Portlander life from clothing to furniture, to every outdoor activity that there is, but for the dedicated fiber artist, the choices are not as abundant. Disco Fibers acts not only as a de-stash service to individuals and companies, but also as a retail conduit to make fiber arts more affordable to the everyone.

Member Tip

Picking up stitches on the side of your work? This month’s member tip will explore one way to do it.

Bring Something for the Free Table!
If you have yarn you no longer love, leftovers from a finished project or something has just been hanging around in your stash too long, bring it for the free table at the in-person meeting. You might take away a treasure that was someone else’s giveaway!
Our monthly meetings require a small but crucial team of volunteers in order to run smoothly, including for registration, as meeting assistants, as audio/visual support, and at the help desk. Read full descriptions of each position including responsibilities and time commitment: Puddletown Volunteer Descriptions

Interested in volunteering? Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Seth, at volunteer@puddletownknittersguild.com. You can sign up for one single shift or commit to a position for the rest of the year. Thank you for your support!

See details about a fundraising volunteer opportunity below in the Knit for Food section!

Service Project

We’re trying to provide a warm adult accessory to every Rose Haven guest attending their Mothers’ Day parade so we are knitting and crocheting as fast as we can to meet this goal. Our April meeting is the deadline for our 150 Item Dash so keep making hats, mitts, and cowls in washable yarns and bring them to our meeting or email outreach@puddletownknittersguild.com if you cannot attend a meeting. Only adult items will count, but feel free to contribute children’s items, too.

There will be two prize drawings at the Knit for Food event (see details below). The first one is for anyone who brings completed items to the event and the second one is for anyone who completes items at the event.

Here is a fun and fast knit, the LOSY (leftover sock yarn) hat, which is knit with two strands of sock yarn held together. This pattern is never boring since each hat is unique.

As usual for service knitting, please use machine washable yarns as you create on behalf of Rose Haven and their guests. Turn finished items in at any guild meeting or contact outreach@puddletownknittersguild.com to figure out a drop off place/time.

Finally, if you'd like to join the small group that organizes our service knitting, contact outreach@puddletownknittersguild.com to learn more. It's a low-energy-demand, high-joy-output way to help the guild and others.

Knit for Food Gathering

March 23

Puddletown Knitters Guild is excited to sponsor a space for this year's Knit for Food knit-a-thon! We'll be raising money for hunger & food insecurity. Join us on Saturday, March 23rd from 9:30-12:30 am at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church for fundraising, snacks and camaraderie.
Don't worry about coming on time or staying until the end, roughly every 30 minutes, we will learn a bit about the organizations we are supporting, or do a few stretches to help protect our hands and shoulders, or compete against each other in a knitting trivia quiz, we will give away a door prize (or two), and then we will enjoy 20-25 minutes of social time. We'll have coffee, tea, and snacks, and we will have several circular knitting machines for you to try your hand at cranking out a hat, scarf, or headband for our friends at Rose Haven. RSVP if you can (not required, but encouraged!) to info@puddletownknittersguild.com

If you are feeling particularly motivated by this issue, you can follow this link to set up your own fundraising page, and reach out to your family, friends, and coworkers to raise more money for the cause. If you do set up your own team, please shoot us a quick email at info@puddletownknittersguild.com and let us know.

Volunteer and Help Make the Fundraiser a Smashing Success!
We are looking for a crew of volunteers who can help out by setting up the room, managing the registration table, and cleaning up after the event. There are two 2-hour shifts:
Shift 1, 9:00am-11:00am: This includes 30 minutes of set-up time before the event and 90 minutes of checking people in at the registration table.
Shift 2, 11:00am-1:00pm: This includes 90 minutes of checking people in at the registration table and 30 minutes of clean up after the event.
Both shifts include tasks that will need some volunteers to move heavy things (like tables and chairs), but accommodations can be made for those who cannot complete those tasks. If you are interested in helping out on Saturday, March 23rd, please send an email to Seth at volunteer@puddletownknittersguild.com and let him know which shift you would like to sign up for. Thank you!
The Puddletown Knitters Guild Board meets monthly to discuss upcoming presenters and events, communications, outreach projects, volunteer organization, and financial status, along with any other business that needs tending. If you’re interested in attending, members are always welcome. If you’d like anything brought to the board's attention or discussed at the meeting, please email us at info@puddletownknittersguild.com

Our next Board Meeting will be March 27 at 6pm.
