Spring Update: Discover What's New!

February was jam-packed with lots to do at the Family Space and around the community! We want to thank everyone who came out to our workshops and storytimes. There’s a lot more to come as we hop into spring. From new Book Box installations to a science storytime plus a special storytime at the NC Museum of Art! Roll Up & Enroll for Pre-K!

A Message from Our School and Family Engagement Team

Families,

‘Tis the season for Pre-K enrollment! On March 16, 2024, Durham PreK will host their annual Roll Up & Enroll event on the quad of Durham Technical Community College. This event will allow you to get your future Pre-K student geared up for the 2024-2025 school year! In order to qualify for Pre-K, your child must be 4 years old by August 31st, 2024 and a resident of Durham County. Please bring all required documents and any questions you may have to the event, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Bring your family along for the event and enjoy the delicious provided food and family friendly activities as you apply!

Highlights from our Community Engagement Team

Book Harvest has installed our 40th Book Box in Durham! Next time you’re near these places, feel free to stop, grab a few books & keep them FOREVER! Our book boxes are refilled on a scheduled basis so continue to check the ones in your community for new finds!

We also installed a new bookshelf at Duke Hospital Emergency Department! This will hopefully make the wait to be seen a little more comforting with a choice of books to enjoy.

Artful Storytime at NC Museum of Art

Book Harvest will be a featured reader for NC Museum of Art’s Artful Storytime! Storytime with an artful twist! Come look, listen, and move as we make connections with original works of art and children’s books. Rotating featured readers means there’s always a new perspective to enjoy.

Science Storytime with the Museum of Life & Science

March 14, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Book Harvest Family Space

Join Book Harvest & Museum of Life and Science for a Bilingual storytime about Flowers & Plants! There will be a storytime followed by a science activity for everyone to enjoy!

Families will also have time to enjoy Book Harvest's Family Space and pick FREE books from our shelves to take home FOREVER!

Stories from the Start: Storytime for Babies

Stories from the Start is a bilingual (English/Spanish) storytime for 0-2 year olds with songs/music, nursery rhymes, & movement activity. Families will also have the opportunity to use the Family Space freely before and after the storytime, including choosing books for their children to take home and keep.

Jumpstart for a Day!

Jumpstart for a Day at Book Harvest!

This event is perfect for children 8 years old and under! Duke University Jumpstart's program, will host JFAD (Jumpstart for a Day), bringing together Duke students and the local community for a day of educational engagement. During JFAD, Duke students will take on the role of enthusiastic readers, leading the community through a book. The event kicks off with a dynamic reading session, immersing children in the book to promote early literacy.

DPS Family Academy: Test Preparation for Parents

April 11, 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM

Join us for an info session to learn about ways to you can assist your student with upcoming tests at home!

Childcare, homework assistance, & Spanish interpretation provided!

Marbles Kids Museum

The Rootle Roadster Tour is back and coming to Raleigh. Enjoy games, hands-on activities, educational resources and more at Marbles. Enjoy free screenings of the new PBS Kids series Lyla in the Loop in the IMAX Theater.

37th Annual Egg Hunt at West Point on the Eno

West Point on the Eno

Egg hunters wanted at the 37th Annual Egg Hunt at West Point on the Eno! Children ages 0-12 will be grouped by age for the egg hunt. Discover the golden egg and win an additional prize!
