The Chocolate Edition

|
Our Field Notes Dinner and Dialogue Series has returned! This fundraising series celebrates food, visual arts, and historical genius. Join us as we shine a light on the fascinating stories of Black culinary and agricultural pioneers who have helped shape our past, present, and future.
Our first dinner of the year is on
Sunday, March 17th from 4-9PM at Good Neighbor in Hampden!
The theme for the event is chocolate. We are collaborating with local chefs, artists, and creators to offer a night of culinary delights, intellectual discussions, and artistic inspiration featuring Caesar the chocolate maker as the honored ancestor.
Tickets to the dinner are limited and selling fast, but we have plenty of room in the cocktail hour! Reserve your spot today through Eventbrite.

Blue House Garden
The Blue House Garden is collectively stewarded with the Rooted Collective, a liberatory gathering of Black LGBTQ people to define, dream, and expand on the ways they heal from oppression and practice joy and pleasure. They root their work in the knowledge that healing for all Black people is political resistance. Their goal is to grow ancestral foods and medicinal herbs for Black LGBTQ people and their neighbors in the communities we live.
ACCE Garden
The ACCE Garden is maintained by the Green Team, a student-led extracurricular club. Their goals include developing agricultural knowledge and skills, understanding the importance of agriculture for survival, and fostering entrepreneurial skills by creating value-added products. With two greenhouses and over 20 raised beds at the school, they aim to create an outdoor classroom for hands-on learning.
Shirley's Community Garden
Shirley's Community Garden is the embodiment of Shirley's lifelong connection to the land, having been raised on a farm herself. With a passion for cultivating fresh produce, Shirley dedicates her time to growing food for the Druid/Sandtown community. With years of experience managing both personal and community gardens, Shirley's primary objective is to educate her neighbors about the benefits of container gardening, fostering a sense of sustainability and self-sufficiency within her community.
Our Community Garden of Sandtown
Our Community Garden of Sandtown has been a greening hub in Sandtown for 25 years. The garden provides a natural oasis where neighbors come together and school groups meet up. Along with growing fresh fruits and vegetables for the community, OCG teaches local residents how to grow their own to become more food secure. OCG includes a community vegetable garden, a workshop area, a fruit tree orchard, a community apiary, a pollinator garden, a small flock of chickens, and a cut flower garden. They host summer camps, after school programs, and a variety of other neighborhood groups. They also participate in the Care-A-Lot program which allows them to hire youth to help with upkeep throughout the year.
