Hello <<First Name>>,
Happy Birthday to me! In honor of another turn around the sun, Keith handed me the mic, so strap in for Danni-style diatribe.
A Special Thank You
First, I often celebrate a “Hobbit Birthday”, where I follow the Tolkien tradition of giving small gifts to others on my special day. So, though it’s not much, please let me take this opportunity to thank you all for all the attention, dedication, and love you give to the film festival.
Whether you’re spending three whole days greeting people and scanning passes, watching hours of film and making hard decisions about which ones should be included in the year’s lineup, or spending lots of hours in meetings and making hard decisions about policy, all the people who make up the PTFF team are so vital—past, present, and future. Thank you!
Consider it your special day as well! Can you name these birthday-themed films?

SHORT SCREENPLAY SUBMISSIONS RECEIVED
In honor of PTFF’s 25th birthday this year, we’ve joined forces with Jefferson County Filmmakers Collective and the Port Townsend Film Studio to host a short screenplay competition and fully produce the winning film.
March 1 was the deadline and we’re thrilled to announce that we received 37 submissions from screenwriters located in Clallam, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, and San Juan counties. These scripts are waiting for myself and our other readers like little presents. Can’t wait to untie the bows!
Did you have ideas for scripts, but didn’t get them done in time for the deadline? Start writing now for next year! Here’s some advice and inspiration:

FILMMAKER IN RESIDENCE
Also waiting for me are submissions by some of our alumni filmmakers (filmmakers who have had at least one film screened in either the fall festival or Women & Film) who are interested in spending up to a month with us here in Port Townsend as a filmmaker in residence. The residency provides transportation support to PT, room, and some board for up to four weeks in May.
Filmmakers have a chance to get away from their everyday lives, be inspired by our beautiful town, and get some serious work done. Along the way, they share with the community through a class, a presentation, or something unique and creative they’ve dreamed up just for us. More info about our Filmmaker in Residence program.
Check out past filmmaker in residence Christina Antonakos-Wallace’s latest film From Here.
Look for an announcement of the 2024 filmmaker in residence soon!

SEEKING POPCORN FIEND
One of my favorite birthday celebrations is a big bowl of movie popcorn. If you’re a popcorn fiend like me and have ever dreamed of having unlimited access to the fresh popped good stuff—you’re in luck!
We’re seeking a Popcorn Master to become an expert volunteer in all things fluffy and delicious. Reach out to info@ptfilmfest.com with your interest and I’ll get back to you right away for a tasting meeting.
