Have you ever heard of Semi hemispherical fret ends? Some people call them bullet frets. That is because the end of the frets are rounded and polished to look like a bullet. This is a really cool technique to add to your fretting tool kit.
However, it is quite labor intensive. That is until my friend Nigel Forster developed a new tool to help make this process MUCH easier. It is a disc that goes in your drill press and it has a diamond coated concave surface on the edge of the disc that grinds the semi hemispherical shape onto the end of the fret. See the video below for a demonstration. Nigel sells a standard arbor version and a heavy duty arbor version. Semi hemispherical frets are still more labor intensive than just doing standard frets. However, this tool makes it much easier to do and they look really cool! Some even say they feel better when playing. Occasionally Nigel orders a new lot of these tools and offers them to fellow luthiers. He has some in stock now, so don't miss out on getting one for yourself before they are all gone.

I get a lot of questions about fretting and the tools I use. So, a few years ago, I did a live Stream on the subject. See video below.
Most of my fretting tools come from Stew Mac. They have the the best quality fretting tools on the market in my opinion. If you were not able to tune in to my LIVE STREAM on Youtube, you missed a wealth of information.   I hope you enjoy it. Make sure you subscribe to my Youtube channel to know when I am going LIVE. Happy Building!
