Thanks for your support
Dear Parents/Carers
One behalf of myself and my staff I would like to thank you for your continued support of the school and your children.
While it will be a few weeks before the report from our recent OFSTED visit is published, I have seen a draft. The response of parents/carers to the Parent View element of the visit was not only significant (way above that of most schools), but really reflects the support you give to the school and your children to make sure their 5-year educational journey with us is positive and they have every opportunity to be the best versions of themselves possible.
We know that as a school there are always elements of our educational offer that could be improved. This is something we strive to do on a daily basis. It is with your help and support that this strive for continual improvement continues to be a positive one.
Enjoy the Easter break with your children. Let’s hope it eventually stops raining!
Regards
Russell Stevens

Our Year 11 BTEC Dance students presented a series of dance performances, they had choreographed, in front of friends and families as part of their coursework. The video recorded will be sent in as part of the assessment for their course. We saw some strong thought provoking performances much enjoyed by the audience. Well done Year 11.
Smashed Global returned to present workshops
Smashed Global returned to present workshops to Year 7 on Monday.
This was a follow up from the session last week. This time considering people who behave like sheep (vulnerable, shy, followers) and those who behave like wolves (sly, powerful, intimidating) in order to control one another.
Through hot seating the actors explored how sometimes people put on a mask to disguise how they’re feeling to hide the real situation. Students came up with brilliant questions to explore the depths of the ‘wolf’ character.
Throughout the session, Year 7 thoughtfully explored why people behave in the way they do, and how to avoid getting caught up in difficult situations themselves.
The Importance of Promoting Cultural Celebrations at JHCS!
Promoting these religious celebrations within our school community is crucial. These events are not only observed by diverse communities worldwide but also carry profound cultural and spiritual significance.
By being mindful and supportive of students and families, we can foster a sense of belonging, promotes inclusivity, respect and appreciation for the diverse beliefs and practices within our school community.
Here are some notable celebrations around the world throughout March.

At John Hanson Community School we are committed to providing equality of opportunity for all students and staff, and to providing a working environment free from discrimination, prejudice and harassment.
We encourage respect and consideration for others, and recognise and value the school as a safe place for learning. The staff at John Hanson recognise that inequalities exist in all levels of society and believe, that as educators, we have a crucial role to play in eliminating all forms of discrimination, in particular against anyone with any of the protected characteristic. We promote equality by dealing with bullying and incidents of discrimination immediately and by educating the young people in our care through assemblies, tutor time, PSHE day sessions and group work where appropriate.
This is part of our responsibility in preparing our students for life after school.
