All Souls, DC is pleased to welcome New York Times bestselling author, leading scholar and commentator on religion and politics, Robert P. Jones, talking about the 2024 Election and his new book.

Taking the story of white supremacy in America back to 1493, and examining contemporary communities in Mississippi, Minnesota, and Oklahoma for models of racial repair, The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy helps chart a new course toward a genuinely pluralistic democracy. It also explains how the founders could build the philosophical framework for a democratic society on a foundation of mass racial violence--and why this paradox survives today in the form of white Christian nationalism.

About the Author: Robert P. Jones is the president and founder of Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and a leading commentator on politics, culture, and religion. His previous books include White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity, which won a 2021 American Book Award, and The End of White Christian America, which won the 2019 Grawemeyer Award in Religion.

SPIRITUALITY CIRCLE

Spirituality Circle meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 11. Spirituality Circle is one of the many ways we come together at Paint Branch to find, develop and enhance our sense of belonging in community. It’s about encouragement and curious exploration of a variety of spiritual practices that connect us with the sacred. We support each other in our individual challenges and pursuits.

We are using a curriculum called “Faith Forward” again. In this series we are introduced to and asked to “try on” many different spiritual practices. We are asked to ‘keep an open mind and see what comes up for you’. Our bodies and minds mature. The same is true of our spirits. What may not have served us well at one point in our lives, may serve us now. We are encouraged to approach these practices with “new eyes” and a sense of curiosity.

Our next meeting will be April 14thth when we will gather at the Labyrinth at the U of MD Memorial Chapel for a facilitated walk 11-12. This activity is part of our exploration of Mindful Eating and Walking.  If you are interested in joining us please contact Lynn Louison getnsyncpt@gmail.com  Attending previous sessions is not necessary for attending any session but if you want information about them you are encouraged to look at the Handouts available below.

PBUUC Social Justice Task Force needs your input!

Everyone’s thoughts are important!

Please take a few minutes now to reply and answer these two questions…

1 ~  What Social Justice involvement is currently most meaningful in your life?    This may mean what organizations or causes you support, what you are active in, or where you spend your financial resources.

Limit to five, please.

2~ What future Social Justice projects  would you like to see Paint Branch be involved in (up to five)?

What would energize you, bring the congregation together, and support the values of our church?

You might be thinking of supporting the local community, engaging on a state, county or national level, or through the UUA.

Please respond as soon as possible to sjtf@pbuuc.org.   The deadline is March 31.

We are eager to hear what you have to say, and will be scheduling a  Listening Session soon.

The conversations will continue!

With gratitude,
