of Middle Eastern Splendor
🎶 “The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám” 🎶
Join us for a mesmerizing afternoon journey through the heart of Middle Eastern cultures, where music, poetry, and history intertwine to create an unforgettable experience.
The Prelude: As the concert opens, immerse yourself in the dramatic intensity of Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco Overture, followed by the haunting beauty of arias by Massenet and Korngold, all brought to life by the celestial songstress Rebecca Fromherz.
The Expedition: Travel with us to the ancient wonders of the Pyramids of Giza and the enigmatic Valley of the Dead, accompanied by the musical stylings of Julie Giroux. Feel the pulse of the Arabian desert, its tribes locked in a timeless dance of battle, through the iconic film score of Lawrence of Arabia.
The Reawakening: After a brief interlude, witness Rebecca Fromherz invoke the spirit of 12th-century Persia as she breathes life into the poetry of Omar Khayyám. Accordion maestro Tommy Thompson will guide us through this world-premiere musical adventure, with the ethereal music of Alan Hovhaness arranged and directed by John Skelton.
The Celebration: Our odyssey continues with a vibrant celebration of popular Jewish music as we revel in the Klezmer Classics by Johan de Meij. The grand finale will transport you through five Armenian Dances, a lush tapestry of sound collected by Gomidas Vartabed and masterfully scored by Alfred Reed.
