Dear <<First Name>>,

The Local Government Reception last night, hosted by the Burnaby Board of Trade, showcased the power of collaboration between businesses, non-profits, community organizations, and government levels. Together, we can accomplish remarkable feats for our communities. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with the local organizations and work towards a brighter future for Burnaby!
I visited the City of Terrace Coast Mountain College last Friday with David Eby, Jennifer Rice, Nathan Cullen, and Mayor Sean Bujtas for the result of so much intergovernmental cooperation and persistence with passionate community advocates for the past decade.

As part of Budget 2024, the Province is providing 21 local governments, represented through the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance (RBA), with $250 million over five years to better address the unique infrastructure needs of each community in this large and diverse region as they continue to grow sustainably.

Working with RBA communities to get this new RBA funding in place has been a priority for me as the Minister of Municipal Affairs, as it is part of our government’s efforts to build a strong and sustainable economy in all parts of the province. I am grateful for all the incredible work that our partners, Mayors, and local government staff do in your communities, every day.

Province supports more school improvements

As we support school districts to undertake school renovations and add infrastructure, we are ensuring that our kids have clean, safe, modern places to learn and grow.

That’s why we’re making historic investments in upgrading schools throughout B.C. with $291.9 million for school maintenance projects.

This is an investment to help make schools more energy efficient, climate resilient and better able to support their school communities.

Province strengthens flood defences, protecting people, communities

The climate crisis is here, and we need communities to adapt and strengthen their defences against flooding and other extreme-weather events.

We are working with local governments and First Nations to reduce disaster risk and better prepare people and communities for the impacts of climate change.

More communities will benefit from local projects that help keep people safe during disasters and extreme-weather events.

Enhanced technology will help better predict wildfire movement, growth

During a wildfire, every second counts.

As the impacts of climate change evolve, so too must our ability to manage the threat of wildfires.

By adding more technology to the BC Wildfire Service’s tool kit, our firefighters will be able to make critical decisions faster when it matters most.
