Join us for the 2024 CSA season starting soon

One of the very best ways for individuals to strengthen local food systems is to purchase directly from a farmer.

Our Community Supported Agriculture program is now open and the new season begins soon. Our Berries and Blooms CSA let’s you eat and enjoy our farm fresh produce while simultaneously giving people with disabilities the chance to grow for you.

Spring chicks have arrived!

Guess who’s here?! We have some new fuzzy friends who’ve joined our farm family. Thanks to the diligence of our chick team, Common Roots is rearing a dozen chicks to add to our flock of layers.

These gals are being gently handled daily by our farmers to make sure they are friendly and comfortable around people. They will likely move to a new coop in our orchard where they will offer fun interactions with our farm participants. Our team is getting them familiar with people and they will soon enjoy the company of our participants in the farm’s Seed to Salad accessible garden.

Extra thanks to Dylan, Raul, and Brianna for their care and handling of these chicks who sure add an element of fun and surprise to our farm enterprise.

Spring cleaning with 1440 Multiversity and USC alumni

Once again, our generous volunteers have stepped up to assist us with the many tasks that seem to continually arise on a farm. We could not be more grateful!

The employee team from 1440 Multiversity showed up in force and got to work helping mulch our trees, weed and mulch our raspberry block, and cut willow stakes for transplanting. The facilities team members even gave our farm truck, Francis, a makeover! A new battery charger, some fresh trim paint and a thorough pressure wash has Francis ready for the coming farm season. It’s so heartening to have such enthusiastic supporters like the employees at 1440 who share their many skills with us here on the farm.

For the second year now, alumni from USC have arrived to do a day of service on the farm. This year’s visit had them sowing sunflower seeds inside the greenhouse and pulling all the weeds that popped up thanks to our particularly wet winter. Yikes, there were alot of weeds to deal with! The sheep were glad to be the last step in this process as our USC folks then fed Tinkerbell, Peter, and Pan. It is always uplifting for farm staff to know how much Common Roots Farm’s mission resonates with our wider community.

We feel the support and appreciate it very much! Thank you 1440 Multiversity and USC alums for all you did to get the farm ready for another exciting season. We are so glad to have your support!

Farewell to a great dog

Common Roots is heartbroken to share the sad news that our beloved farm dog, Blu, has passed away. Our deepest thanks to all who helped by donating to his veterinary fund. Because of this support, Blu had everything he needed right up to the end and he left this life surrounded by people he knew loved him.

A centerpiece of our farm and neighboring community, Mr. Blueford Jenkins was a singular presence who kept an eye (at least one!) on all who came and went. Protecting our sheep from coyotes each night, and watching out sleepily for all of us during the day, Blu worked his way into many hearts. He had a giant personality to match his size and his loyalty.

You were one of a kind and we are so glad you were part of our farm family, Blu. We thank you for all the laughs and love you brought us and we will miss you so much.
