CHRISTIAN MEDITATION

“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)

You’re invited to join our Christian Meditation Group, Thursdays at 6:30 pm.  Learn about this ancient way of contemplative prayer.  Also known as the “prayer of the heart.”  It was introduced into Catholic Spiritual practice for lay people by Fr. John Main OSB.  These one-hour sessions include 20 minutes of silent meditation.  No difficult poses or complicated techniques.  This is for beginners as well as experienced meditators.  Centering Prayer and TM folks welcomed.  For more information, call/text Darrell Taylor (867) 678-5775.

SILVER ROSE PRAYER SERVICE APRIL 6TH

The Chilliwack Knights of Columbus are getting one of eight Silver Roses that are criss-crossing Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to pray for respect for life, the spiritual renewal of each nation and advancing the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Our  Silver Rose Prayer Service will be on Saturday, April 6 following the 5pm Mass. Bring a Rosary and join us!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST AFTER ALL MASSES

The Knights of Columbus will host a pancake breakfast after masses on April 7th. Come enjoy pancakes with fruit toppings, sausages, cookies, coffee and juice, and support St. Mary's Youth.

LADIES SPRING SALAD EVENING

Our last Spring Salad Evening was held in 2019 and we are VERY excited to be bringing it back!  Tickets for this event have always sold out very quickly so we encourage you to purchase yours early! (Tickets will be available for purchase beginning April 7th - $20/person).  Enjoy an evening out with your lady-friends, and meet new friends!  Attendees will be seated at beautifully decorated tables, enjoy a selection of gourmet salads, buns, dessert, coffee/tea (and possibly wine!), listen to an inspirational talk (TBA).  There will also be a plant sale at the end of the evening (courtesy of Rainbow Greenhouses).  If you are interested in decorating a table, please contact Elaine at fundraising@saintmarysschool.ca .  We look forward to seeing you on April 26th!

PIETRA CHAIR CLASS

It’s not too late to join!

Do you have mobility issues or physical limitations, but would still like to build strength & flexibility while also  increasing your mental and physical well-being?  A Chair Class is made for you!

Alison ten Bohmer, a Pro-Certified Pietra Fitness Instructor,  is inviting LADIES ONLY to a Chair Class at St. Mary’s.  Chair classes offer gentle movement from the safety of a chair. 

Pietra Fitness is a whole body fitness program that combines stretching & strengthening exercises with Christian prayer & meditation with the goal of enriching your body, mind, & soul so you can glorify God with your entire being.

A  30 minute LADIES ONLY class is held on Mondays, at 1:30 PM in the Annex.  The fee for 5 classes is $35 or 10 classes for $70.

CHERISH PROJECT COLLECTION CONTINUES

The Chilliwack Knights of Columbus continues to collect diapers, formula and non-perishable baby food for the Cherish Project. This initiative of Chilliwack Pro-Life offers moral and tangible support for young (usually unwed) mothers who made the decision to keep their babies. There is a shopping list near the collection bin in the hallway.

NOVENA TO MARY

On the first Saturday of each month, the Legion of Mary will lead the Rosary after praying the Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

The Chilliwack Catholic Women's League awards

... a one thousand dollar ($1,000.00) Bursary to a Son or Daughter of a League Member who is pursuing their first year of post-secondary studies.  Application deadline is April 30, 2024. Forms are available at the church office.

... two five hundred dollar  ($500.00) Bursaries to two St. Mary's students who will be entering St. John Brebeuf High School.  Check with the school for forms and information.

A NATIONAL BURSARY is awarded to a CWL Member with at least a three (3) year membership.

This Bursary holds financial aid for further Developmental Studies.  Applications submitted by May 15, 2024. (applications available from the parish office)

PRO-LIFE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This initiative aims to support pro-life students in the Chilliwack area who are graduating from Grade 12 or are first-year university students.  Applicants will submit an essay that reflects their pro-life stance.  Deadline for applications is May 10th. CATHOLIC STREET MISSIONARIES

The Archdiocese of Vancouver and Catholic Street Missionaries invite young adults 19-30 to join us for the Hope on the Horizon outreach and leadership program happening between August 6-21st in downtown Vancouver. The program is designed to introduce young people to the life of a street missionary, sharing a life of prayer and service with others who go out into the streets bringing the love of Jesus to the homeless. For two and a half weeks, participants will live a communal life, praying, learning, and reaching out to our homeless friends on the streets. There will be street outreach training, faith formation and personal skills development. We will also enjoy recreational activities together. Food and accommodation will be provided.

Volunteers needed!

Laundry Driver - we have bedding from the Shelter that needs to be taken to our Supportive Housing to be washed everyday.  The staff will bag the laundry and load it into our RAN Van.  We are looking for someone who could pick it up at 11:30am from the Shelter and drive it to the Interchange.  There, they would help to unload it and pick up the clean laundry to be transported back to the Shelter. Round trip should be approximately 1 hour.  We are looking for volunteers to fill a couple of days of the week to start. We would prefer if you picked a day of the week and kept that date on an ongoing basis. If this is something that interests you, please contact me with the day of the week that works for your schedule and we will chat about more details (such as a drivers abstract, safe driving agreement, etc.).
Upcoming Fundraising Events... Night of Hope Gala - May 3rd (we will be in need of some help the day before for set up as well as the day of).  Again, if this is something that you are interested in, please let me know.
Ride for RAN - September... we are going to be looking for a volunteer coordinator for that event.  If you like working with a team, enjoy being outside, can handle a fast-paced event, then we need you! Connect with me at your earliest convenience to see if this is the right fit as we are going to start the planning for this event very soon!

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers in their Afternoon Pantry (free grocery store) - 12 pm - approx 3:30 pm (or until they run out of food).  They are also looking for help in the Kitchen where they feed soup, a sandwich, dessert and a beverage to anyone who wants to come.  Volunteers needed from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm.  

CYRUS Centre

Providing 24 hr support, shelter & services to Youth in need.
