| B: Happening Now: Holy Week Maundy Thursday – 5pm – A celebration of the Eucharist remembering in particular the Last Supper, including the washing of feet. Maundy is a form of the Latin Mandatum, that is, mandate or command. The mandate we celebrate is the command of Jesus “Love one another as I have loved you”. We strip the altar at the end to symbolize the emptiness of the death of Jesus. We will gather for an agape supper after the service.
Good Friday – Noon and 5pm – The Good Friday Liturgy remembers again the passion, on this day from The Gospel of John. We follow that dramatic reading with the Solemn Collects, veneration of the Cross and communion from the Reserved Sacrament, which was consecrated at the Maundy Thursday service.
The Holy Saturday celebration is the Great Vigil which will be presented at the Church of the Incarnation at 8pm. All are invited: This service includes baptisms when requested and many readings tracing the history of salvation.
Easter Sunday – 10am – The celebration of the Resurrection is the high focal observance of Christianity. Christ’s being raised from the dead confirms God’s promise of eternal love, confronting and defeating death, and promising that each of us will also be raised from the dead to dwell with God in eternity. We will celebrate that Eucharist with new understanding of the gift of our salvation. An old tradition, an Easter egg hunt, is being planned for Easter Sunday after the service, and there will be a sumptuous coffee hour. Easter Season lasts until Pentecost Sunday May 19th.
C. About to Happen The week following Easter is usually quiet in the Church as we rest after the intensity of Holy Week and Easter. This, year, however, we can offer some excitement: Rev. Carol Luther officially starts as Long-term Supply on April Fools Day! My provisional office hours will be Tuesday and Wednesday, but April and I are still working with Jackie to organize a seamless, low stress office experience during our Interim Time.
To keep up the joy of Easter, I’m introducing three new things into the Sunday service. The first is that we will be singing the Creed. You can find it in Wonder, Love and Praise, 768. It’s a beautiful Credal poem set to an Irish folk melody. The second is that we will be doing a sung Eucharist. Our Eucharistic Prayer comes from Enriching Our Worship, and is full with images of new creation. And finally, we’ll be singing the dismissal. You might find it a little challenging at first, but by the time we’re through with Easter, everyone will know it well, and if past experience is any indication, we will feel fully resurrected! | A Note from Fr. Ed | To all of you at St. Patrick’s:
Terry and I would like to thank you for the enriching experience we had worshipping with the St. Patrick’s family these last several years and especially this past year when I was privileged to be your pastor.
My leaving you is technically called the “dissolution of the pastoral relationship,” which simply means our relationship becomes “old friends.” Unfortunately, the traditions of the Episcopal Church include directing a strict separation for a year or two, mainly to allow any new clergy to establish that pastoral relationship.
So we will be around, but not in contact, and not in any way involved in administrative decisions, or worship, or even social gatherings. We will miss you.
On this Easter Sunday, our last day with you, we are happy to celebrate with you the promise of eternal life give to all of us through the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are indeed blessed beyond all measure.
Thank you for a great time together. See you around the Deanery and the Diocese. Blessings to all!
Sincerely, Fr. Ed |

Thank you to Joel/Anna, Ned, Beth, driver Chris, and rep Arturo. Tonight we gave free REFB food to 59 families/214 individuals!
Thanks, also, to Ned for drilling deeper holes in the concrete blocks that hold the whirly-gigs. Those spin on Hwy 12 to attract attention to our sign, our church sign and distribution times. They ALL stayed in their blocks! This is a first since we began using them years ago!
April 8 Pam/Larry and Natalie/Olivia are volunteering. That is what we need! Beth is scheduled for April 22. Three more are needed. Please let me know if you can help April 22.
Eleanor Albon: ralbon@aol.com | | Thanks to everyone who has helped at Nomadic Shelter this year! Starting last November, and teamed with wonderful staff from Redwood Gospel Mission, St. Patrick’s has fed and housed 15-20 people on the first Saturday of the month. April will be our last Shelter for 2024. A special shout-out to Betsy Randolph for heading things up, and to all our intrepid cooks and servers. | | Here we all are at the first dinner in November when Margaret Merchat made Shepherd’s Pie and mashed an epic number of potatoes! Can’t believe it’s been six months! Here’s what goes in the Blessing Bags: 1 pop top can of pasta with meat 1 juice box 1 granola-type bar 1 package of crackers with cheese or peanut butter A napkin and sturdy plastic fork Place everything in a quart-sized plastic bag. The stretchable Glad bags work very well. If you like, you can include a short hopeful message. | | |
Socks Needed For the Homeless The Daughters of the King are requesting that socks be given to the homeless. Please shop and bring them to church with you. Any style, any size, including kids’ sizes are needed. Please buy dark colored socks. New socks, not used, are requested.
There will be a special drop-off with a sign in the narthex. Dark colors such as black and navy are particularly requested. Thank you for working on our first project of the year with us!
