On the edge of reason.

We know the story so well, and so much of this week's Christian journey is all too predictable; even in modern day life. The fickleness of the crowd - one moment carrying you high, and the next baying for blood. How money and fear can turn an erstwhile supporter into a traitor. How some of your closest can desert  you. Even God can seem to forsake you.

Our services took us on the journery. On Palm Sunday, on Maundy Thursday (when the wind and rain seemed to shake the very foundations of the church), through the darkness of Good Friday with a reflection on how Mary felt powerless to help her crucified son.

And this morning making sense of it all - even if sometimes it can feel on the edge of reason. As Caroline said in her sermon there is no denying that embracing this requires a leap of faith. No logic will prove the existence of God or convince some of the Easter story. But what happened 2 millennia ago still echoes through the ages - the sacrifice, that love conquers all and the ultimate truth for all of us - there is no resurrection without the tomb; death is the gateway to eternal life.

We can live our life to the full with that faith at its foundation. We can embrace it in our daily life if we love - it does not require spectacular things but allowing our hearts to be fuelled by the Holy Spirit allows us to be raised to new life each day.

Thank you

Caroline paid special thanks to the many who had gone the extra mile to help provide the space for others to worship in our beautiful church. She singled out the flower ladies for providing a stunning setting of new life as we dare to hope that Spring weather is at last taking hold.

And our thanks to Rev'd Caroline as she led her first Easter here at St George's.
The Church is open

The church will be open on Easter Monday between 10 am and 5 pm for quiet prayer. The names of those departed whose families asked for their names to be read out at today's service will be on display as well as the lilies in memory.

Unfortunately the children at today's service made short work on the Egg Hunt so whilst you are welcome to visit the peace of our churchyard any searching will be wasted!
Music to touch the soul

Thank you Alan for bringing so much music to our worship.

Today we had "in christ alone"

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny

And to end the service and our Holy Week the belter (there its no other word for it) Thine be the Glory
...endless is the victory thou o'er death has won.
Our Prayers

Thank you Linda for leading us in prayers in what might be your last time before you move to London.

Your prayers included our Royal Family, for peace in places of conflict, that families will come together for Easter in joyous mood and for those who are ill especially Colin Skinner, Lynne George,  Miri Cavill, Vic Barnard, Graham Hart, Karen Jarman, Jonathan Haskins and Veronica Walker.

Linda prayed for those who have recently died including Audrey Price (Bob's Mum) and Pat Cameron and those whose anniversary is at this time including Ian McMillan, Melvyn Dyer, Rosemery Derby, Richard Maycock, Winifred Sparks, Isobel McAuslan and Nellie Treacy.

What's coming up

Next Saturday the Hub resumes after an Easter break. See you at 10am

Next Sunday (7th April) we are back in the Hall for Cafe Church at 10 am.

On Monday 8th April Rev'd Caroline will be starting a weekly prayer group at 9am in the Committee Room at the Hall to be followed at 9:30 with an 'Office Hour' where you can meet her and discussions.

The Electoral Roll will be open for changes between 14th and 18th of April - see the Electoral Roll Officer Graham Foden or a churchwarden if you need to discuss.

We will be holding Evensong at church on Sunday 5th May at 5pm. This timeless element of christian worship is such a wonderful 'slowing down' preparation for a busy week ahead.

Our Annual Meeting is on 19th May in the Hall immediately after our morning service. Rev'd Caroline made a closing request for people to come forward for the myriad jobs of all sizes that keeps St George's providing a haven of christian fellowship in our busy and sometimes loveless world
